When I learned this in 1988, I had no idea how much of an impact it would have. I played it all these years, and yesterday I incorporated a piece of the main riff into one of my songs and uploaded it. My wife says 'Don't upload that, you play it all the time'. I had to explain the relevance, she had never heard the original Scary, so I played the intro and she was again saying 'Don't upload that' so I further explained how significant the tone chase was, I've been trying to sound as brutal for years, with my distortion cranked on 10. She finally agreed. It is very hard to get that sound. Very. I have always played it differently. There was no YT at the time. Sheeze. There was no internet. And here we are, 30 years on. Amazing song. George is a hero of mine. Thanks for sharing.

Solar Guitar Studio I don't know if you were usin a distortion pedal or not, but if you cranked the AMP gain to 10, that can make your tone very soft and weak. when you take the distortion down to bout 5-7 it make a your tone sound harder and punchy

Yes! I learned this without the internet as well and time to time I play this and add my own extra solos to it. George Lynch is why I play guitar.

Gain on amp around 7 then use a tube screamer ,sd1 to just push the amp . Much better then just crank your amps gain.

The difference between him and others is that he doesn't care if its in the rulebook on what a player is supposed to be or play and that's why he is Mr. Scary. His riffs are amazing and the definition or rock!

That's something I loved in the 80s. If a rock band had a blazing guitarist, they would often get the chance to play an instrumental tune on the album. Some of them, like this, were pretty cool.

Not sure why George changed the way he holds his Guitar when he plays . In the 80s and 90s he used to hold the Neck / Head Stock of the Guitar High so he could stretch his left arm further and where his face was closer to the Finger board as he played . In the last 20 years he has played the Guitar Level with his chest from the Headstock to the Guitar Body like in this Video with his face not so close to the Finger Board .

George has claimed he is self-taught guitar player though he references many theory-based words such as flatted fifth major and minor which would conclude that he's had some sessions or lessons or been told by a more studied guitar player what the notes and techniques that he is playing and then he refers back to these correct terms nonetheless George Lynch is by far one of the most unique heavy metal guitar players I have ever seen or heard

Interesting to me that he refers to the sections of the song as, verse, chorus, pre-chorus. I'm guessing this was written to have vocals initially.

@PhoenixRenegade

@@stratkiller2531 I think that he lowers the neck pickup on that side so the magnets won't pull on the bigger strings, maybe? George is my hero!!
@tonepilgrim4333
@tonepilgrim4333 5 жыл бұрын
Innovative Styles Customization it’s probably to make the low strings less muddy. When you lower the pickups, it lowers the output and brightens up the tone a bit. I’d imagine he is doing this to preserve note clarity at high gain on the low strings.

Fuck me. Every time I watch, he just seems better. Don't really like the tone, but obviously this is not his regular setup and he's playing the songs for the camera. You focus here on the information given. You want the real tone, you find it on the records.

Remember that you are the one that replied to my comment and I stand by the fact that for a guy who is known to have a good tone his tone sucks shit in this video. As far as watching his hands goes you can copy him all you want if that’s your deal. I know I’ve ripped off a few of his licks over the years.
