Lynch was my favorite player when I started playing guitar(probably 88/89) before kind of leaving the style behind; though it wasn't anything about his playing as much as a change in my musical tastes. It wasn't even like went from Dokken to Alice in Chains so much as going from G. Lynch to someone like L. Buckingham (though I did move to listening to more alternative). I ended up for years playing in Indie bands in the 2000's before putting the guitar down for a couple years. Ironically when I picked out back up it was like two steps forward, four steps back and I was playing SRV and blues. Over the last few years I've gone full circle and am relearning that original 80s stuff. Interestingly enough it really wasn't because I suddenly longed to play 80s hair metal, at all really. I've been a luthier and amp builder/tech for years, and someone bought a Marshall Silver Jubilee clone kit and paid me to build it for them. Once finishing and getting it biased and dialed in I was running a Strat through it, then plugged in a Les Paul. Ive always found the Jubilee to have the quintessential "Marshall roar," and kind of a little of all the Marshalls. As soon as you plug a Les Paul into one it's almost impossible to not start playing GnR riffs, maybe unless you're Joe Bonamassa. It was like hopping on a dirt bike or go-cart after decades and instantly remembering why you loved riding them…just without the inevitable middle-aged body aches that the bike would give you. I was going to build a Jubilee myself, but in an odd coincidence someone contacted me about some equipment I had online for sale and asked if I'd be willing to trade for one of the 20W Studio Jubilees. I did and it's a MUCH more useable amp than a 50 or 100W would be; half-power switch or not. Now I'm trying to decide between a Charvel Wild Card or a Kramer SM-1, as much as I generally hate Floyd Rose it's better than knocking everything out of tune.

@@stevemineer2857 There wasn't a bad track on Out of the Cellar and I never once thought he sounded like Eddie on that album. However the pro-shot footage of the band and Warren's legato, that is what sounded a lot like Eddie to me, but Warren was doing it all with his left hand - no tapping. A F-ing shred machine. Although the next album was damn good, I couldn't stand the change in his playing and tone from the later albums, where he used that supposed magical Marshall.

@@jerk_store ahh... the purrple marshall... I used to jam with that thing on lunch break sometimes... it sounds so sweet when loud, but kinda meh when your boss's wife tells you to turn it down. Cheers!

Speculation as to what band George was referring to that needed a legacy player? Who could it be?

My guess is RATT. It may be Priest tho, through the Faulkner connection.

Assuming the story about Warren helping George to learn Randy’s parts occurred in 1982, that would have made Warren 19. In hindsight, I’m glad George didn’t get the gig, because we wouldn’t have his playing in Dokken. Plus, maybe we’d never have heard Jake. Also, I’ve always questioned if George was the right kind of player for Ozzy, because Ozzy likes Randy’s solos played close to the originals, and I don’t blame him. And like George says, he’s never been in a cover band, and never really learned other people’s stuff. He’s never seemed like the type who plays the same thing twice, and he’s like that with his own solos. Plus, if he was having trouble learning the parts on his own, that’s not a good sign.
