I'm glad George lost the gig. Ozzy and Sharon screwed Jake so bad, that he lost his desire to create and perform music. He tried once more with Badlands, but after the whole fiasco with the singer, Jake just exiled himself from the entire music industry for decades, until just a few short years ago. Meanwhile, George has put out like 50 albums, so it looked like it worked out. For George, anyway.

Machu Pikachu Me too. The whole LA Metal scene was just about to explode. The old guard from the 70s (Dana Strum, Blackie Lawless, George Lynch, Kevin Dubrow & QR, etc.) were barely hanging on. Dana Strum created the Randy Rhoads audition which saved Ozzy from extinction and gave him a new sound, which opened the doors for Quiet Riot. In 1983, Def Leppard Pyromania kicked the doors open, then Metal Health & "Cum On Feel The Noize" blew the doors of their hinges. Ozzy was nothing but a drunk in those days. He fell into resurrection by dating Don Arden's well-connected, well-funded daughter and by listening to Dana. Sharon was a Jet Set trust fund baby who rebelled against her dad while manipulating his industry clout. It was a huge lottery win

I'm hearing a lot of good things about those Friedman amps. They do a great job mimicking those classic Marshall tones, and I imagine they don't cost nearly as much. The gain knob cranked generates a great rhythm tone in the style of 70's-era Kiss, AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, Foghat, etc. All you need is a pedal boost for leads, and you're set!

I read an old guitar world interview where randy called evh all smoke and mirrors. Also said that lynch was the guy in those days that intimidated him as a player. These three guys were all house bands in the la scene at the same time and i feel like it was evh only because he got the first big time record deal. Any one of the could've been the g.o.a.t. had it been them instead. All way ahead of their time and changed heavy guitar forever.
@HiHello-ku1fl5 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about this earlier today. I love Randy's playing but Jake E Lee I find is one of my fav's along with Warren D Martini and George Lynch. EVH was mind blowing but all these guys were about right on the same level with Randy and Eddie. Great guitarists. All equal and different. No best really. It's subjective.

Can anyone who owns a Friedman amp tell me what is their general reason for existing? I just want to understand why would you buy basic Marshall clones with more saturation built in? What does that accomplish that just sticking a boost or overdrive into the front end of a lower gain more stock amp? Seems to me you can achieve more variety of tones with all the different flavors of pedals out there?

I own a Dirty Shirley Mini and a Twin Sister. It’s anything but a one trick pony. It does clean on the edge of breakup extremely well. It does low gain 70’s rock very well. Put a Buxom Boost or something similar in the front and you can do big, thick 80’s hair metal tones that’ll rival any Marshall amp. It’s great as a pedal platform. That’s 4 tricks right there. The only thing that’s make it not as versatile as other amps is that it’s a single channel (but you can work around that)
@trippystan5 жыл бұрын
This is not a good representation of what this amp sounds like. Every DS I’ve played sounded much more clear. As others have stated I think it was recorded poorly (bad mic choice or pre gain). Not a horrible tone, sounded like a Tweed more then a Plexi but blind folded I would never guess this is a Friedman or even a Marshall style amp.
@jackleyton55044 жыл бұрын
I appologize George. Before I purchased the Dirty Shirley I said you were wrong calling it a one trick pony that does one thing very well. Now that I have it I have to agree with you. It is a great amp but it really is a one trick pony for the most part. I also own the BE 100 which is actually more versitile. Both are great amps. Thanks George, you rock and sorry again for my original BS.

@cainsmale59884 жыл бұрын

@dmv1023 Жыл бұрын
I am surprised he called it a one trick pony. I think the tone changes quite a bit depending on the gain switch setting (granted, the amp in this video doesn't have a gain switch), the high or low input, and the relative level of the master volume versus the gain knob. You can get a nice punchy clean by cranking the master and plugging into the low input with the gain switch on the high setting. You can get very nice pristine clean doing the same with the gain switch on low. Also, you can get all different levels of crunch and they all sound good. You can get different levels of looseness/tightness depending on the gain switch setting as well (looser in the low gain setting and vice versa). I don't know. George is cool but I don't know if he did the amp justice. Of course, he probably has many more amps than I will ever try playing through, so maybe the clean and crunch sounds of the DS40 suck for him.
