This song was originally recorded and released by Elton John solo but, in my opinion, this version with George Michael took it to another level.

Not to mention that when it was released in the 70s by Elton and Bernie, it never charted at number one like this version. Elton himself said George made it his own and he was in awe of it.

George was such a great human; he'd given millions to people throughout the years.. but it was all in secret. He wanted no acknowledgement for it. Only at his death was it revealed. True selflessness. RIP to a beautiful man.

He once watched the U.K daytime show This Morning and saw a couple who had exhausted all of their savings trying I.V.F and had failed, George was so moved he contacted the show and paid for I.V.F for the couple in secret, they were successful and had a baby girl I think, they only found out after he died 😢

Can y’all believe that George Michael is not, I say not, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There is just something very very wrong about that. How can that be?
@rosamiller8687
@rosamiller8687 4 жыл бұрын
I so agree with you even though I don't think if I remember correctly he said it was important to him it still would have been such an honor. The Man's music is timeless and his songwriting is genius. He was however honored with so many worldwide Awards. Most notably what he was proud of was receiving six Ivor novello Awards in his lifetime. That meant the most to him because he was truly a songwriter at heart. He still holds the record for the youngest recipient to win that prestigious songwriting award.

Thr fact that George Michael is not in the rock hall of fame says nothing about George Michael, but calls into question the credibility of thr Hall of fame. He is a legend.

mallaka8 agree with you completely. I don’t understand what makes someone qualified for entry. Whether or not he ever gets in is not as important as all the thousands of lives he touched with his music and as we are now finding out, with his generosity. Seems he was bless with both a beautiful voice and a sweet soul. Miss him so much.
@incrediblehollk
@incrediblehollk 3 жыл бұрын
I think the problem you run into with the rock and roll hall of fame is that they, for the longest time, held sacred the "rock and roll" in their name (for right or wrong). George, brilliant of a musician as he was, has always tended more toward pop. It's only more recent years that they've really begun to feature a wider range of artists and turn more toward a "music" hall of fame.

Whether you react or just listen to it on your own, I would highly recommend George Michael's duet with Mary J. Blige. The song is "As", written by Stevie Wonder.
@teensymom1420
@teensymom1420 4 жыл бұрын
A fun song when he was with Wham, ‘I’m your man’’. Not a mature voice yet but showed he had some power to it. A couple of duets with powerhouse women, Aretha Franklin, ‘I knew you were waiting’ and with Whitney Houston ‘if I told you that’ (video only). In that duet you see just how smooth his voice was and last but not least his cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘As’ with MaryJ. Blige. All perfect collabs with his perfect voice. I know I and many other have talked about his tribute to Freddy ‘Somebody to love’ - I swear you have never seen anything like it. And then we could go on forever about all the songs he wrote, ‘Father Figure, Jesus to a Child, Fastlove...so many. One more suggestion, then I will shut up - his live version of Bonnie Raitt’s ‘I can’t make you love me’ is so beautiful and heartfelt’.

I fell in love with George and `Prince over 34 years ago and was so lucky to see them both live several times. Heaven will be a magical place with these and all the others that sadly passed.

Sadly never saw those 2, but I did get to see Elton when he came to auckland just before covid took aver the world, and even though he was sick he still managed to sing flawlessly for near 2 hours before his voice finally gave out on him.

That is the first time hearing that duet for me! I thought Elton singing that song could never be outdone, but this gave me chills! George Michael did an outstanding job! Seeing EJ in concert has been on my bucket list for quite a while, but it has never happened. Maybe someday.

It's great that you recognize the amazing talent of both George Michael & Elton John! When listening to older music younger people don't often recognize the technology didn't exist to correct music in the studio. It was real actual talent!

If I hadn't grown up loving this song with Elton John it might not have seemed odd to hear someone else sing it. I think George Michael did a great job, but Elton's gravel and breathiness is just the bomb!

I am so glad you did this one! Hands down one of the best live performances of a remake. George's voice gives me chills to this day. And big daddy Elton?!? Come oooonnnn.... RIP to one of the greatest set of pipes of our times. True talent gone too soon.

Growing up, George was a die hard Fan of Elton John's Music. Also it made History because it went to Number One the Second time where Elton's Solo Version only went as far as #16 o The Pop Singles Charts. What was so heartbreaking was that afterwards Elton finally went to Rehab in Chicago, to treat his Addiction for Alcohol, Drugs, and Bulumia (He'd go on eating binges and then deliberately get sick). Elton knows how lucky he is. He outlived so many folks. Michael Jackson, Prince, Freddy Mercury. He tried desperately to help George but couldn't get through to him. He was the First Blue Eyed Soul Superstar for the Video Age, he kicked the Door for other singers like him from Ed Sheeran, Robin Thicke, Sam Smith, and Justin Timberlake.

This was George Michael's last #1 single in the US. After that he had an disagreement with Sony Music which followed by a big lawsuit which he lost. Sony destroyed his career in the US completely and didn't give him any air play in radio and TV.

Made me cry to hear this, makes me think just how much George Michael had left to give music wise. A beautiful soul. As seperate performers they are excellent but the way they came together in this live performance is unforgettable and magical.Your reaction was magical to watch.

I was in college when this occurred. Quite a few of my friends had gone up to Chicago to see the George Michael concert - nobody could have know that Elton would be a surprise guest. What an amazing treat for all those fans. I was so bummed I didn't go. I really don;t like when people cover songs but this is incredible. Have you heard George singing at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert? Check out his version of "Somebody to Love"
