I always thought these people who have these committees were really intelligent, the 2% bit baffled them and the understanding that there is more than one cause of fast run off. why do we need data, its bleeding obvious. Keep going George, absolute legend
@normanmurray36592 жыл бұрын
George you expect to manage extreme rainfall that we have been having, tree planting and vegetation compresses the water into the centre of the river increasing the volume and speed of the water by reducing the area of the flood plain.

Are you really that ignorant? Some basic fluvial geomorphology and hydrology lessons are needed before you embarrass yourself again
@simonmasters3295 Жыл бұрын
Norman, sorry to say Peter is right 1. Water does not compress 2. Trees enhance infiltration to soil, hence "slowing" 3. It's all about transfer rates not absolute amounts

Very calmly and eloquently explained to them George, well done me ol China, Trees stop floods and droughts!. Stop unnecessarily murdering Sheep and plant Food Forests and Broadleaf Deciduous Trees inter planted, introduce wild edible plants such as Wild Garlic, Mushrooms, Wild Berries, Herbs etc.

Scotland is bare of trees as basically they are tundra areas being so far North. Latitude as being the equivalent to Southern Norway around about the same area as Gothenburg.

You do realise Norway has had a huge increase in woodland cover. Scotland was covered with trees once and it can be again. www.rewildingbritain.org.uk/blog/reforestation-in-norway-showing-whats-possible-in-scotland-and-beyond

That is ridiculous to suggest that beavers can control floodwaters, is it not true that beavers dams can increase the dangers of floods from dams bursting increasing the danger of a flood by increasing the height of the flood, and more damaging by the debris carried in the water. The general consensus is that beavers should be kept away from waters with salmonids because of the detrimental effect on upstream migration and the silting of spawning grounds as the water is slowed down allowing the accumulation of silt which kills the eggs in the redds. You have made a great effort to hide the detrimental effects on salmonids in the UK waters by trying to hide those effects. Generally coarse fish may do well in the beaver ponds but salmonids do not do well and have cost a considerable amount of tax payers money in paying out compensation for land that is lost to erosion caused by beavers and also the mitigation work that has had to be carried out again at the tax payers expense, so I,m afraid that it is not at no cost is it not the case that it is at considerable expense which will increase as beavers expand into different areas by translocation or by natural means.

Everything you said is wrong..... Beavers dams may cause tiny little local floods but there overall effect is to reduce flooding downstream, slowing the flow, reducing peak floods - the science is well proven. The scientific evidence is beavers are good for salmonids, especially fry, your silting augments is hogwash. There is a tiny bit of evidence that salmonids in very hilly country on a tiny percentage of tributaries may be negatively affected but overall a positive. Beavers move there dams over time. Beavers will not cause taxpayer handouts, I think landowners get more than enough. It's time to stop the handouts and tax land, especially of those that rob the land of its nature and then have the gaul to think they are its guardians.
