I think the reason GRRM never gives information about Asshai is that he wants his readers to know absolutely nothing about it. He wants it to remain dark and mysterious.

From a writing stand point, leaving open ended story lines gives you openings to continue and allow for broad strokes of creativity.
@Slechy_Lesh2 жыл бұрын
I think it's the reason he actually gave! He loves history - because he's a cool guy - and in history they didn't have the internet. They heard things from sailors and explorers, and told their friends and the story grew in the telling. People in Europe knew very little about Africa beyond the Mediterranean bits, and less about China and less about America or the poles. So there was also straight fiction in there.

There are Chinese descriptions of the Romans and their empire, and Roman descriptions of China. They're both almost totally disconnected from reality. The most accurate... sort of... thing I remember from any foreign account was from a Chinese writer who said the Romans didn't have a royal line, but rather elected their kings, lol.
@sw36jl2 жыл бұрын
The Chinese descriptions were more accurate however than the Romans of the Chinese or Serica. And if you know Roman history, you should know the time of that account they did elect leaders from the Senate. Only later after Julius Caeser did the Empire and royal line begin, but even then the Praetorian Guard post-5 good kings would simply pick and choose, and the line was extremely discontinuous

I thought there were no children in Asshai because that's the sort of city it is. "What sort of city's that?" A city without children. Or may the people of Asshai came from somewhere else.

That headhunter was likely a modern dude dressing up like his ancestors for the tourists. Like going to Disneyland and thinking Snow White dresses like that everyday. LOL, Snow White... sounds like a ASOIAF character.

Most have us should have seen George telling us that we should trust the Westeros Citadel as gospel. As much as I appreciate him saying that. I wish he would respect what he said and acknowledge the desperation we have for Canon information.

I love the history and lore making skills of George RR martin especially in his created religions inspired mostly through different sects and aspects of Christianity. The faith of the seven in which are all aspects of a greater god is not too dissimilar to the holy trinity and of course, we cannot ignore the fact that in heaven there are 7 arc angels who look over and protect humanity. In the Red god or the lord of light and shadow R'ylhre has a dualistic religion believing in two gods one good and one evil this is shown in history under the Cathers of medieval France and were the target for one of the crusades. and of course, there exists the worship of fire and light as something to purify and absolve of corruption. In his mythology there existed a hero who turned back the first long night with his blade Lightbringer this can be drawn to the planet Venus in which is often visible in the sky near night, it is also the name for the arc angel Lucifer which has the more common name of Satan. There are also many hints to Lovecraftian Horror in the Iron Islands and in the shadowlands of Asshai For what is dead may never die, is a play on the famous Cthulu story "That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die." and in the temples in the far east where there is the church of starry wisdom (which is a church in H.P.Lovecrafts the Haunter of the dark)

He does not use Christian themes in his writing he said so himself.
@countravid37684 жыл бұрын
UglyhoodRAT ....um no I didn’t say that he used Christian themes? Anyways in an interview he literally says when he made the faith of the red god he was inspired by the cathers. Also I didn’t say he uses Christian themes what I said was when he made the religions of Asoiaf he took real world religions and mixed it with his own ideas.
@LinkLegend02 жыл бұрын
Christianity isnt real dude, its a mythology what you are saying can apply to any religion even more so the pagan ones with his world building, there is no one god in asoif. George even explocitly said he avoids Christian themes of angels, sons of gods, refering to god as father etc etc.

@@countravid3768 cant evidence your claim so you resort to ad hominem logical falacy, classical uneducated idiot, good thing religion is on the decline thanks to a larger educated population, in 100 years if current trends persists your faith will pass to mythos like every other before it.

Plot twist: There is another Game of Thrones going on among the different Gods and their power is proportional to the number of adherents they have. All the ploys in ASOIAF are happening due to their influence 😅
