Absurd. One can be both, and in the presence of the very existence of capitalism, even those who find many moral fault in it are still force to work within the paradigm. Soros has donated 2/3 of the money he has ever made. That is moral and ethical. The ideal would be for all capitalists to be taxed so that everyone is doing their fair share at replenishing the commons that made it possible for them to make the money in the first place. All capitalists rely on stable society, bridges, educated workers, low crime and reliable periods of time to plan on a peaceful society without war threatening their economic opportunity. Clearly, capitalism cannot exist without consumers such that socialism is actually the foundation of the most successful capitalism, thusly Norway are better capitalists specifically BECAUSE they are better socialists.

I’m going oversimplify this but here it goes. Throughout the first, second, and part of the third piece of his speech I was with the thought, okay, governments, corporations, and populations without morals tend to mess civilization up. I can generally agree with that. But then towards the end he basically says, as a business person he does what he can to make money, but as a citizen he tries to change policy to make it impossible for citizens to make money the way he has made it. In other words, I’ve gotten my piece of the pie now I’m going to work to make it harder, if not illegal, for you to get your piece.

It's harder to work for money then it is to already have tons of money. When your broke you have to do everything yourself and everything costs your time and energy. If your rich enough, you can get people to do everything for you and your money always grows without you having to actaully do things. You don't have to be strong, smart, or even a real business man to be rich. The only requirement to be rich is to have lots of money and to have your name on something valuable so you stay that way... Everyone wants to be able to not worry about money and to be able to live hedonistically, but rich people don't actually benifit society other then by filling the role of ownership, it is always the workers who do everything and keep things going. Money and Ownership isn't actually real. It's all made up and an illusion and simply the basis on, which society forces people to all have jobs rather then allowing everyone to work for themselves or even just be self sufficient.

I love Soros's ideas and honesty. Tho I must say that I think he underestimates the damage refugee crisis has on european democracy and unity of EU. We must recognize that refugee immigration has completely changed in last five decades. Since wealth, technology and social security have increased tremendously in Europe, we cannot have uncontrolled immigration and naively hope that our western values will remain intact. It refers to the concept of individual's attempts to maximize their own gains leads to the optimal allocation of resources which is better for us all. The "visible hand" is not a principle in economic theory at least that I have ever heard of and I think you might have misheard George Soros. Just in-case you got it confused ;).

I think Open Society is a misnomer. i believe it only means open at the bottom .In so doing the top becomes more isolated and powerful. See economic incentives. Elites are keen to human nature and its inevitable liabilities as a result of competition, overcrowding, even under the most controlled conditions. The range in temperament, intelligence, refinement, en masse would be most beneficial to elites in taking steps backwards while powerful elites take steps to advance and widen the gap between success and failure within the context of natural ability and status. Hence,Open Society doesn't mean we are getting freer or more advanced per se. Quite the contrary. Its allure is the example of the bubble, its value as an ideal, and its inevitable burst ( and equilibrium, to give him the benefit of the doubt) at the expense of consumers.
