Great question. My guess (based on the sign of the times back then) is the person who reported it was white and for that reason they just ran with the fact that he placed a person of color at the scene. It was much easier to pin it on him than it would have been to dig deeper into the murder. Sad to say but I believe George Stinney Jr was nothing more than a scapegoat. Even if they did know who really did it, he still would have caught the blame. It’s an unfortunate reality for that specific time.

The only thing George was guilty of was being Black in the 1940s South Carolina and coming across two white girls. Legal experts and cold case detectives reviewed this case and found George to be innocent. It's well known George was coerced into saying he's guilty because he was scared and a kid. The police promised him candy and promised to let him see his family again if he takes the rap. George and those girls are the real victims. The real murderer, the medical examiner, the governor, the police, the county, and state of South Carolina are the guilty parties.

Exactly! They said George drove a long Railroad Spike into both of the Girl’s Heads at the same time. You tell me what kind of Strength would a Child his size need to have to do something like that??? This whole story they made up about George is Complete BS and Black People are STILL being lied on Today, only THIS Time, there’s a Ton of Video Proof to catch the Liars. Just imagine if Maud Artery’s Death wasn’t recorded. Those Punks would’ve gotten away with Murder. They drove George’s Family out of town and used it as leverage to get a False Confession.

Ok, just proves my point. No defensive wounds means these girls trusted their killer. Nephew, brother, but positively male. As far as the testimony back in 1944, they could have beat, threatened, or worse to that 14yr old child. No one was there to protect him.

The individual who claimed to have witnessed George Stinney Jr. with the two girls is, in fact, the likely perpetrator of the crime, not George. For him to have observed George with the girls in such a remote location, he himself would have had to be in that secluded area. George had a legitimate reason to be there, as he was tending to a cow. Therefore, logically, the true culprit appears to be the man who filed the report.

I am about 6 minutes into the story and it brought back memories of my granddaddy. He worked in a logging camp and was paid in company script only redeemable at the company store. He had to pay their prices. He only bought what he had to. Flour, coffee, sugar, salt etc... If he wanted meat he had to kill it himself and drag it home. Now on with the story. By the way he was able to get out of that situation somehow (lost to history) and became a locomotive engineer with the Southern Pacific Railroad. I wish I knew the rest of the story.

Lamont , you touched a bad nerve on this one. My blood boils when I hear things like the wickedness of these people. We lived in an old cold half rotted down house with no plumbing owned by the millionaire and while my father came home freezing , sick and with bloody feet the scum bag (that never paid him) lived in the biggest home in town. I could say a lot more but really the only thing I want is for him to suffer 70 ×70 as much as my father and his family suffered. All while he lived like a king !!

Another angle: If they put George to death just because he was black they would also know they were falsely accusing him and would also know that the real killer was still out there. It doesn't seem reasonable that they would let the real killer escape just to execute a black kid. And if they were really so cruel and blind with racist hate to do that, would they not have also beat and persecuted his father? The whole story seems odd.

There are a lot of things that are not told about the story of George Stinney and the events surrounding him being charged for murder. He had a white lawyer who refused to truly represent him and that lawyer didn't cross examine or call witnesses to the stand. Now George Stinney was with his younger sister who admitted they were approached by the 2 girls but it was brief and she and her brother went home after the encounter. His other siblings also attested to the fact that he was at home when those murders would have occurred. I truly believe that this murder was pinned on him and the true murderer got away with it. It wasn't uncommon for rapes and murders to be pinned on black males due to a lot of the propaganda that was always disseminated about black men being violent etc. It wasn't hard to convince a racist all white jury that a black person was guilty either. You had a racist judge and an all white jury who was probably just as racist determining a young boy's fate.

The facts are: Stinney was a mean, mentally-disturbed kid -his own relatives and neighbors stated as such. . He led police to the murder weapon -a heavy iron rod, a piece of railroad equipment. This case was conveniently re-hashed by extremists who want to cause racial division, strife and hatred. They are using this for "virtue-signaling", and to stir up emotions..

Having a masters in criminal justice, I would like to point out two factors in this case, 9 times out of 10 when there is no blood at a crime scene it usually means this was not the place where the crimes where committed which usually means the body or bodies were place there after the fact. Secondly there were no defensive wounds which usually means victims are familiar with the person who committed or is committing the crime against said victim so the victim doesn't put up a fight. This is usually seen with children who are murdered by their parents/relatives/ some one they know and trust.

No blood, only a confession by a 14 year old boy. Sad but that's how it was back then in the south. I am sorry for all 3 children may they rest in peace an May God have mercy on the person who did this. They may still be living want to die and be cursed like Kathy Bryant. Another excellent and well explained video Lamont. I am a retired London UK police officer and historian and amateur criminologist. It's true that there was no proof of his guilt AND no proof of his innocence, BUT under pretty much every legal system in the "civilised" world, the expression is "Innocent until proven guilty". Meaning that it was not down to George Stinney Jr to prove his innocence, but for the prosecution to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that young George was guilty. This did not happen. Given the era and location, it is pretty safe to say that this was nothing more than an abuse of whatever masqueraded as the legal system in 1944 and was almost certainly racially motivated and decided. Nowadays a "confession" of a minor like that would be inadmissible as he had no legal advice or an appointed adult with him during the interview. I, like you Lamont, agree that he could have murdered these other children. It IS possible... but not probable. There is/was absolutely no physical evidence to prove his guilt. The confession could for all we know have been entirely fabricated. This was not just a huge miscarriage of justice, I would actually go as far to say that this was a "legal murder". THREE children were murdered in the summer of 1944, and only one of the killers is known to us, and that is the biased (bigoted) South Carolina judiciary. RIP George Stinney Jr. We will never forget you. Love and Peace everyone.

First of all, you are an excellent storyteller and I love your videos! Listening to this very much reminded me of Stephen King's "The Green Mile"... It makes me wonder if this may have been part of his inspiration for the story. The sad thing is that people's reason was so clouded by racial bias in those days, that it's pretty much like they were saying to the real killer, that it was ok for them to murder those two innocent girls, they would just find some easy target to pin it on (in this case, a poor black child), hence allowing a real killer to walk free amongst them. Of course, it is easy for me to say that through the lens of time. I have a hard time believing those girls **weren't** sexually assaulted in some way. Perhaps the medical examiner didn't want to just come out and say so. Somewhere out there, some disgusting creep got away with bloody murder. The fact that there was very little blood at the scene suggests that the girls were killed elsewhere and merely dumped where they were found. Head wounds are notorious for bleeding profusely. It is sad that George Jr.'s family did not have the funds to send his body back up to New York to be buried. The mobs and Klan in those days did not just go after people of color, but also anybody they deemed to be undesirable or a threat. It would be very easy for white people who knew the truth to be scared into silence. Anyway... just my two cents. Hopefully I didn't anger the KZbin gods with my thoughts. Keep up the good work!

This young, tortured soul was not guilty, in my point of view. The obvious conditions and the times, of such convictions in history by a targeted, tortured people, speaks for itself. Let alone the many of unheard, undocumented cases of torture and brutality, brought upon a people, the ruling class determined and executed their version of Justice. May the three, unfortunate souls rest in peace! Someone out there knows, possibly what actually happened. Either that or they have gone to their grave with the truth of the matter. Is George Burke’s house still standing? If so, the floorboards, in his house, could be examined for blood evidence. The girls’ bodies could be exhumed. Depending on the condition of the bodies, the fingernails could be checked for the perpetrator’s DNA. The bodies could also be checked for the perpetrator’s hair. I am sure George Burke’s truck was scrapped a long time ago. It would be interesting to know what he did with his truck, after the crime was committed. He had to have been worried someone may suspect him, seeing as how the victims’ bodies were found on his property. It is a shame this crime was not thoroughly investigated. George Burke should have been a prime suspect.

As Always Thank You Mister Lamont! I am at 24 minutes into this remake or addendum video. I am a former elementary teacher and My knowledge of legal matters is at best pedestrian. The evidence is at best circumstantial and the Confession is quite dubious! Under American jurisprudence; the presumption is innocent UNLESS GUILT IS PROVEN BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. That means the Accused is given the benefit of doubt Where it cannot be proven that "He didn't do it." As I understand it; Napoleonic jurisprudence Assumes Guilt unless proven innocent. Proof and evidence must show that the accused is in point of fact, guilty "Beyond a REASONABLE DOUBT." a Prosecutor cannot argue "Prove the Accused did not do it!" The Burdon of Proof ALWAYS LIES WITH THE PROSECUTION! Mr. Lamont Your Powerful command of biography memorializes the victims of injustice and prevent cases from growing too cold! If you listen to the different parts of the story......the part that stands out to me is that george burke was a truck driver, someone saw the girls go into his truck, their bodies were found on his fathers land. At the crime scene it was said there was little to no blood found there. Which means: their bodies were transported there and dumped after they were killed, which would have to have been perpetrated by an adult size person. No one ever searched the truck, or even questioned the burke guy after they heard he had been in the girls company. Poor George Jr was railroaded, and they executed the wrong person! I believe they should formally declare him innocent.

In the movie it starts off with Goerge and his sister bumping into the two girls, they ask George and his sister if they knew where they could find mum's s aka flowers. George and his sister say, they don't know to which the girls reply, maybe we can find some on the tracks. Once home police were looking for the girls and asked for help they needed everyone to help form a search party . Before George's father leaves he asked his children if they saw the girls and George Jr. tells his father that they saw the girls and that they were going to some spot at the tracks to find some flowers. This is where I get confused , being how it was back in those times I never understood why, George's father would take them directly to where little George Jr told him and lord and behold they found them dead exactly as to where Goerge told his dad they were going. I don't know about you , but, people knew to protect there family and one would be if two girls had been missing and your black son told you one he saw them and two they said they were going to a certain part of the tracks well, it wouldn't take a genius to look at your son and say, do not tell anyone you saw these girls , you understand me ( noone) to which then the father could of gone on helping with the search and not telling them his son George saw the girls and they said they'd be going to the bump at the tracks to find flowers and again , lead them there to which they were found dead. Another , red flag, Goerges father and his mother leave the home when they knew clearly that the sheriff would be coming to speak to little George there son yet, they left him to the dogs. No parent especially colored would have done these things for fear of the white collar man. Red flags ! In 2014 a batch of college students studying law once graduated took on this trail to turn George's conviction and they won therefore, George is now a innocent young man. 70 yrs later the case was opened and these law students first case they win and overturned this conviction. It still doesn't change the fact that someone lived there life that actually murdered the two girls. The older girl had bruises in her private area the little one didn't which tells me the murder didn't have sex with the little one because he couldn't perform after he had sex with the older girl which if you ask me sounds like it had been an older man that attacked these girls. That leaves and I quote George's older brother who wanted to join the old military and the father who couldn't wait to tell the search party who is white that his little 14 year old black son saw the girls and by the way he said they went to the bump at the tracks and brings them exactly straight to those two girls bodies. I believe it could of been the father honestly . I thought about this for years . However, I still can't earse the older brother out of the equation as well. But, being that little Goerge was with his sister and went straight home I believe he was truly innocent. I will stick to my belief that his father or older brother murdered those girls. Blessings to the innocent and dam the guilty. Thank you for doing this story. ❤

Not only did you only get tokens for your work, those tokens could only be used at the company store. Read the words to the song "16 Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford. After watching this video by Lamont, that song will take on new meaning. I don't think George committed this crime, what would be his motivation to kill two little white girls? Then again, what would be anyone's motivation to kill them, they weren't raped. In my opinion, it was a "thrill kill" for someone, but it wasn't George Stinney Jr.

As a South Carolinian this story is embarrassing and tragic. I couldn't imagine the fear that young man had to feel, the horror his father had to see when the mask fell, and the grief the family had to live with after. Then i start thinking how someone can have the hatred some ppl have in the hearts for a color of skin and the sheer lack of remorse they have after something like this happens. As bad as it is for George Jr it is equally as bad for those sweet young girls and their families. I know those girls families wanted to believe that they got justice for the girls deaths but they can't actually believe George Jr did it and they had to wonder if the real murderer was roaming around out there.

And if he was innocent, which evidence or lack there of suggests, he should have been acquitted on the grounds of "innocent until proven guilty"! What puzzles me the most is why was there even a trial if he had confessed? This young man certainly was not afforded his constitutional rights! If I were a jury member I would say Not Guilty!

People that aren't in the parts of NC/SC that was built on rasc!sm don't know how deep the roots are & that covert & open rac!sm is STILL PROMINENT. There's the actual display of a HUGE confederate flag, that can be seen for miles, right on I-95 near Johnston County til this day. The confederate/Jim Crow beliefs & ideologies are still in tact & it dare not be challenged. It breaks my heart to see we've come so far yet still regressed.
