Fun Fact: According to Jason Alexander, the monologue was actually an alternate ending to the episode. The initial test screening of The Marine Biologist ended with George walking into the sea, but the Seinfeld crew didn't find the ending funny. Larry David wrote the monologue and Jason memorized it in ten minutes. It was done entirely in one take.

When the writers came up with the idea of the golf ball suffocating the whale and George saving the day, it was less than 24 hours before filming.
