That is a very old riff. Been around since early days Delta Blues. John Lee Hooker kind of made it famous though. Some trivia- The old, white-haired, guy in the video is Willie Mosconi. Between the years of 1941 and 1957, he won the World Straight Pool Championship nineteen times. He was also a pool hustler and would bet other plays and such.

The song is a nod to Bo Diddley. Bo took an old blues riff (Muddy Waters' "Hoochie-Coochie Man") and wrote one of the great blues classics of all time, "I'm a Man." Amazingly, Bo recorded this song the same day as his signature song, "Bo Diddley." Two of the greatest riffs in rock & roll recorded on the same day, March 2, 1955.

The opening riff was, among other things, featured frequently on the TV show Married With Children, starring Ed O'Neill, as Al Bundy. Whenever some threat came up, or need to take "decisive action" Al would get "on his muscle" and go out and "solve problems" the old fashioned was, with baseball bats or other implements of destruction. When this happened, the producers of the show would over dub the opening bars of the song to match the actions of Al Bundy.

One of my all-time favorite MTV videos, because of the "special stars" besides George himself. That would be the white haired gentleman with the young female companion, he is Mr. Willie Mosconi, a multiple times World Champion Of Pool, and Minnesota Fats biggest rival. And of course the man with the beat, Mr. Bo Didley. Yes, that is known as "The Bo Didley Beat", and George was paying his respects by having Bo in the video. Saw George Thorogood and The Delaware Destroyers once, and he and they, are just as advertised, loud, proud and for real.

I used to play them a lot in high school on vinyl and at parties I was at and also in college Years but sometime in my freshman year in college, this older woman I was dating stuck me into a 21 and older show to see the Rolling Stones in around 1981? I can't remember. Mick head rejoined them for a minute and that was cool but yeah George Thorogood was opening. I always thought of him it's just like simple entertainment but as an opening band? That guy in the end had us all standing on our chairs jumping up and down and screaming and hollering until we were hoarse. He is incredibly entertaining live. There's just no way to describe it. I know it's simple stuff, but he makes it work and his band was always really good. Check out something from the Same album except do the studio cut, it's called it wasn't me. It's a banger and it's fantastic. And of course he infamously covered Johnny Cash Cocaine Blues. But you should check out it wasn't me, it's clever and it really rocks. He's so funny when he gets into that mode but he's hard rocking the whole time.

George was asked what his favorite song he wrote was, and he said "I don't have one. I don't really like my music, I write it for the fans.", lol. Made no sense to me.
