Yes, many women face this in relationships and are scared to break up in real life. George has a disorder of some sort. Women and maybe even men in unbalanced relationships experience this and they fear things will get worse if they leave their aggressive partners as they feel the society can´t protect them. Their partners threaten to kill them if they leave so this is a very important storyline. George hasn´t threaten to kill him but his beatings are scary enough and in JP`s mind. This kind of manipulation is so disgusting and horrible to watch.
