I'm getting a lot of comments regarding it still heating after cleaning. First, check the fan is connected properly and that when you cleaned the unit you put all of the little heat transfer squares back onto the chips they came from. If that fails to cure it you may need to replace the heat transfer paste. It is just a case of wiping off the old compound with isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol and replacing the compound. You don't need very much but place it dead centre of the cpu and put the ps4 back together.

I cannot thank you enough George, I have struggled with overheats and a jet engine fan noise for almost a year now and I have looked all over for advice. Your video was simple to follow, easy to replicate and I can say with confidence it has drastically changed the noise and heat problems on my console. I am amazed how much dust had accumulated in the heat sink over the 5 years I have owned this. Feel foolish I hadn't looked into it earlier, very happy with the results. Great job!

I'm only thinking you may have to replace the heatsink compound on the processor. The mistake most people make is that they put far too much on, it only has to fill the micro imperfections, not act like a barrier to the heat.

Super easy to do bro. I just finally got the courage to do mine after 2 years of this BS and it was totally 100000% worth it. Cost me about 4 dollars to fix. Completed the project in about 45 mins following another KZbin video. I made sure all the dust was cleaned and reapplied the thermal paste (many good brands out there, stick to the regular ones and not liquid metal). So far after about 3 hours of straight gaming, my PS4 Pro is quiet like new or better!

If you are concerned about the back emf generated by the fan then it shouldn't be a problem because there is a diode on the motherboard to guard against that in case of such a situation. It is the tame with most decent computer motherboards and other electronics with fan controllers.

Is that something I get online?
@GeorgeChristofi4 жыл бұрын
ok, the two things.. The game will be fine while it is locked in the drive and barring a major catastrophe like standing on the drive will be as safe as anywhere for it to stay for now. Thermal paste can be had from Ebay and Amazon as well as most computer repair shops. The trick is to put on a thin smear rather than act like you are icing a cake. You are aiming to fill in microscopic imperfections between the two surfaces.

@paulcrocker41575 жыл бұрын
I can really believe this as i bought a ps4 pro just over a year ago and only used it a few times as i have an xbox one x, A nintendo switch and a powerful gaming PC and working full time and being in a relationship means i don't get a lot of free time to play games but when i heard no mans sky was coming out on VR i purchased a VR V2 headset and started playing my ps4 pro excited about soon being able to play it in VR. My ps4 pro after about 20minutes would overheat and freeze and switching it off at the wall was the only way to reset it, I build PC Computers so i put a 1tb ssd in my ps4 pro as that means much less heat than from a normal hdd and i changed the thermal paste out for a quality paste (There was NO dust on my heatsink and fan) and the problem remained and I've watched dozens of video's on youtube where people are having the same problems as i am and one youtuber said it is the power supply within the ps4 pro console that is overheating because before the power supply use to be external in the form of a brick but it was better for cooling. I have since purchased a brand new PS4 Pro console with the game red dead redemption 2 and this console has a different power supply cord but let me tell you the console still gets very hot after a short time of gaming playing no mans sky. luckily i purchased a 3 year warranty from argos for my ps4 pro for piece of mind but the strange thing is Sony have stopped selling extended warranties on their ps4 consoles which i find very suspicious, it's like they are aware of the problems with their console thus stopped selling extended warranty to save them the hassle and money. I think it's very poor of Sony considering my xbox one x which is much older and has seen alot more usage has never overheated once nor has my switch, I will keep my first ps4 pro and trade it in for a ps5 when i am able to do so. I purchased a ps4 vertical stand as i believe that will help in helping my ps4 pro to cool down better, time will tell :-(
@GeorgeChristofi5 жыл бұрын
I hear you there Paul which I think there is a huge market for those extra powered USB stands for the PS4. That one was the first I have actually worked on myself but I did some googling first before I started just to see how common the overheating issue was. I used to do fan mods to Pace Sky boxes as they were good at burnout due to inadequate cooling of the power supply. Heat has really been an issue in a lot more modern electronics than the older valve based stuff. Valves get really hot but things were designed in such a way as to cope with the 150c temperatures of audio valves and hot rectifiers. Modern stuff is more shove it in a tiny box and don't worry if it burns out because they will buy new as you can't repair it any more. Xbox power supplies are really good, They can be used for so many things other than xboxes and can really deliver a good amount of current. Nice to have you stop by and hope to see you on other videos All the best, George

have you cleaned it out at all yet? They don't feel hot on the outside but the sensor on the main cpu tells the machine to shut down as soon as it triggers.

Rainbow 6 really stresses the unit because it is so processor and graphics intensive. Other games are kinder to the cpu.

This was an awesome video! There is nothing you can't fix! I liked all your cleaning tips and especially using air. 🌬 This would be an awesome video to remake if you haven't already, because it's doing awesome, have your son in there as well! Have you thought of doing a #shorts on it? I've done a few and it brings new eyes to your channel. Hope you're doing good, staying warm and safe!
@GeorgeChristofi4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Suzy. I have thought about doing a similar video but I would have to buy a PS4 first! This one belonged to the son of the electrician who did the initial wiring on the workshop. Shorts are something that I have looked at but there are very few repairs that can be covered sufficiently well in the time space. I am considering a short for each new video as a teaser trailer.

It woulda been better if you went more into detail and put it back together but Im gonna try it out myself. I seen everyone saying there's would overheat within 30mins of playing but mines literally says it's overheated and turns off within 5 min or less of it being turned on. I wana take it apart but I don't wana break my ps. I would take it to get cleaned or what ever but Its to expensive. So I'm gonna have to take my chances. Wish me luck

Mine was making way too much noise, so I cleaned it all the way to the heat sink. I reassembled it perfectly and now it has the overheating shut down - ( flashing red light with 3 beeps). What can I do to fix this?
@GeorgeChristofi4 жыл бұрын
I would check the heat transfer pads on the memory chips and also check the state of the thermal paste on the cpu. You may need to remove the old stuff with rubbing alcohol and replace it with fresh if it has dried out. Make sure not to overdo the paste though as too much is sometimes worse than too little.

@GeorgeChristofi5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have not quite seated the fan properly or that something is touching the fan blades. You can redo the thermal paste and small tubes are available for not much money. You only need a tiny amount of paste, one tube will last you years.

I have this very console my fan isn't however I'm having over heating issues on half my games.. my question is if I do this tear down for cleaning will it clear my internal memory??
@GeorgeChristofi5 жыл бұрын
No, the memory will be intact. There is no formatting or changing of anything, just dust removal.

I did the cleaning and just as a procession saved all my data to my ps account and I'm glad I did ...my injustices 2, mk11 and back to the future games were completely deleted from the hard drive. What caused this? Cuz I actually feel like I got lucky by doing so
@GeorgeChristofi5 жыл бұрын
@@trickydickyyo6533 I have no idea.. the unit should not lose anything because it isn't powered up at all, you don't remove any memory from the unit or any other physical hardware change except removing dust. Weird to say the least.

I did this and it fixed the problem where it would overheat but now It beeps three times in quick succession randomly every now and then. Edit: I don’t know exactly what it is but I think it was something to do with the eject disc button as that makes the same sound
@GeorgeChristofi4 жыл бұрын
Possibly your button has a bit of a dust bunny behind it causing it to stick down.
@huhjalapeno74694 жыл бұрын
Also when I beeps 3 times and shuts off its overheating like 9 times outa 10 right?
@q-_-p.d-_-b5 жыл бұрын
Can't you just pop the fancover off, and spray compressed air into the fan blades to remove the dust buildup on the heat sink? I know it's not a thorough as complete disassembly but it doesn't ruin the thermal paste by introducing air bubbles. Expecially if you don't plan on reapplying new paste. I did just that on my laptop and ps3 and both fans run quieter now.
@GeorgeChristofi5 жыл бұрын
It doesn't quite reach in far enough to do it that way. If it was easy, sony would have designed it to make it harder!

Great video mate, just great. Quick question, I have done mine yesterday and once I put it back together like ten minutes in the menu, it got too hot and turn itself off. What might that be ?

Probably the thermal pads on the memory chips not being in place fully.

Fantastic video. Followed your step by step instructions and it worked like a dream. My PS4 now sounds like new and no longer is overheating. The only thing that I would mention about this video is about the t8 screw driver. Make sure the your driver has the hole in the end so it will properly fit the center stud that my t8 screws had. I worked around this by using a precision screw driver instead.
