There have only been a handful of big bands that have had a bass player be so front and center and also known by everyone in the audience. Despite all that, Joe is still underrated and relatively unknown by the general populace which is a shame. He is a generational talent.

Just saw Vulfpeck live this weekend and they beat every other show in the weekend, Odesza, Kendrick Lamar, Paramore, none of them could beat Joe as the absolute dynamo of funk. They officiated a Jewish wedding mid-show, Cory Wong played with them the whole time, and the hour set felt like 10 minutes. Vulfpeck is unbeatable

the shape you use on the main riff is often used in funk but how you use it is completly up to you so yes its used often and joe dart here made the main riff in the solo out of the shape
