I note the sneering expressions on some the orchestra players, and think: Who are you looking down at with your expression of amusement? Why does the soloist deserve your air of superiority when he displays accomplishments you do not possess?

@@kphensel it was one violinist in paticurlar. So I suppose I have been too quick to judge. Being a soloist is like being Michael Jordon, or Amelia Earhart. It takes the highest level of artistry and courage. They are the central focal point, the lens of the movie camera recording a sunrise. If that lens is cracked then the image is blurry. So much is heaped on the shoulders of the soloist that they are not unlike Atlas holding up the world. Only the composer and conductor have a greater job. But you are right. I was too harsh.

It’s been a while since I’ve heard a younger pianist play this beloved of piano concertos this well. Your interpretation is no-nonsense, but moving and poignant wherever it needs to be. You have a wonderful ear for melody and rhythm. George, I used to love watching your videos when you were a kid. I knew you’d blossom - and it’s just wonderful to see you blossom - into this! Thank you for your dedication to and immersion in every work you tackle. You show utmost respect to the music and to the composer. Most impressive and makes me want to re-listen a lot! I can remember when this guy (as a child) was being ignored by two dudes who were taking their time vacating the public piano at Soho square and standing in his way. He patiently waited and when they finally and dismissively got out of his way without so much of a glance, he then warmed up on a piece. And after garnering attention launched into Beethoven's moonlight sonata (third movement) the two dudes by then had long gone and probably didn't even have any idea who they were in the midst of to this day. It was spectacular and in the rain.

Welp, the first movement made me cry. The physical pianism is spectacular, I mean the full body movements. A little showy, but for real reasons, not to show off. Tempi are impeccable. Cortot level. Sometimes it is a little more pianistic when it could be more, well...tragic. Could be slightly lighter at times. Gives Kissin a run for his money. Articulation is perfection mostly. I was electrified by the video of your playing that street piano as a child and simply knew what the future might hold for you. Of course by the time I watched it, the future was already upon us! It is very rewarding to have been proved right and I'm delighted that my facetious comment about that street piano and its tuning ...or lack thereof (Can't imagine that the weather did much to keep it in tune!) prompted you to respond. I am only left to wonder, "Have you received a highly approving, celestial text message from Pyotor Ilych Tchaikovski? If not...shame on him! Another awesome performance. I love your "bum, bum, bum" at 4:11 and your smile. It give another human element to this very piano concerto.

Here again is a further performance by Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 ... Love for this author can be seen in the countless times in which he proposes the Concerto n.1 ... and every time the performance capacity of the musical component, the technique it is highly professional. A technique I would dare to say perfect clean a communicative not only composed of notes that caress the inner ego of the listener, but communication through the body, the face, the eyes closed to savor everything that happens inside oneself while the outside disappears. ... an aspect that is noticeable even when a young boy has taken the seat of an almost forgotten piano in a train station .... Bravo George, even if you don't read me, but I can only love you ... and also you know you are becoming more and more a nice guy !!! I've always been ... nice, well not really ... but today ... a hug Enrico from Turin Ecco nuovamente una ulteriore performance di Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 ...
