I once asked a girl out, being honest with her, I told her that I was broke but still wanted a chance to get to know her. I took her to Pizza Street for the $2.99 buffet. We've been happily married now for 18 years.

Wtf YES. Even if you had like no money at all I still saw possibility for cuteness and healthy romance, but 2.99 PIZZA BUFFET?! NVM the difference inflation has made, resourcefulness is an AMAZING quality to bring to the table! 💪❤

06:00 My late sister took out 5k in student loans to go to a for profit school college. She was unable to pay because of health issues. When she died just 14 years after graduating, she owed 50K because of penalties and interest. That means her initial debt grew TEN TIMES. Do NOT take out federal student loans.

My wife and I bought an old farm house back in the ‘80s ($16,000), but it didn’t have running water. We put that in (inexpensively) and didn’t have to worry about the kids destroying the house the way that kids do. In fact, many of their friends liked to come over, because they weren’t stressed about spilling anything on our old carpets, etc. We often had a dozen of kids over, and my wife would cook for them (simple things like “home made” Mac and cheese). Our motto was, “If you can catch it, you can eat it.” (Our dogs and cats were obviously fast enough to avoid being eaten). :) My wife and I are now very comfortably retired and “living the dream” in a log house in Montana. So, yeah, don’t spend all that you earn!

In regards to that first video, my checking account receipt would look low too. I only keep enough in checking to cover the bills. That's because I keep most excess cash in a high yield savings account where it earns decent interest. I'm sure a lot of others do this too.

The cheapest date I have ever been on was free! For months I would get people’s unused Chick Fil-a receipts and then scan them for the points. I did this enough with friends and families that I worked my way up to a CFA Red Member and CFA would send me free rewards weekly. I would then use those rewards on a Monday and get more free rewards through a promotion they ran. I ended up getting dinner for my girlfriend and I completely free at Chick-Fil-A! Still do this to this day

While not the cheapest date I did have a very inexpensive courtship prior to marriage. My wife’s idea of an ideal date was dinner at Sweet Tomatoes and then browsing the discount book tables at the Barnes & Noble bookstore. Started dating in 98 and married two years later. Sure we did some other things for dating like the traditional dinner & a movie or Sunday Brunch but seriously, we mostly ate salads and looked for deals on books. So I guess that is the benefit of dating an English Lit major. 😊.

Her video on student loans is due to why they never get paid down and are such a big problem. The way they are structured is insane and stupid. 10 year of your loan are a mix of negative amortization payments and interest only payments. If you make the minimum payment like most people do, you make no progress against your debt. Almost like making the minimum payment on your credit card but worse.

Idk if George doesn’t read the comments but the student loan video doesn’t make mathematical sense that as a “money expert” he should know better. Below is my comment from the other video. “I hate that George just believes this TikTok without even giving it a thought if it's true or not. Either George doesn't know that the math is wayyyyy off which being a "money expert" you would think he would know better or he's just lying to push his views of "debt bad". Let me clarify why these numbers don't make sense. Given information: $80k starting balance 7% interest rate 10 year time frame $120k paid in total $76k current balance One of the way you can easily see this doesn't make sense is if lets say she never made a single payment and let the interest compound over 10 years at 7%. Using any compound interest calculator that total would be about $161k but somehow the amount she paid plus the current balance is $196K so those number don't even come close. Secondly if we assume she's making the same payments every month which obviously she is not and average out the $120k over 10 years is $1k a month, plug that into any debt paydown calculator and the debt would be paid off in 9 YEARS yet the amount is the same 10 years later?!?!?! This math ain't mathin so either she still doesn't understand how her student loans work or she is doing it for TikTok fame since this clip gets passed around a lot. Either way George should know better and people should see that he doesn't even understand how things work.”

Student loan woman is not making the minimum payment. The original minimum payment on installment debt will pay the debt down in the originally prescribed amount of time. This is why math and personal finance needs to be mandatory (and allocated enough budget for good teachers to teach well). She must have seen those $450 monthly payments and thought "Oh, that's such a large amount, surely this debt is gonna be over in no time !", not realizing that this doesn't even cover the interest. I'm mad that such a scummy practice is legal at all, but I'm even more mad that someone could go through college + ten years of work without even realizing their debt is growing. That's a failure of the school system.

@adeyosola414

@@dylanturner9628I too was thinking that the math was not mathing. It sounds like a private, high interest, interest only loan where the payments made are used to pay off the interest and not used towards the principal amount borrowed: if you only pay the interest and the principal doesn't get reduced, the interests will always increase and the loan will go on forever. I found out about this type of loan from an Inside Edition segment about student loans: as usual they chose the worst examples and interviewed people who weren't that smart about money or personal finance. The loan of one of the ladies interviewed seemed be structured in the same way this lady's student loan is structured: she complained saying 'and pay this amount monthly and I've been paying for a long time and it only goes towards interest and I still owe this.... large amount' and I thought to myself that 'duh if the principal isn't reducing therefore the interests will never reduce. I didn't know about interest only loans then but I thought to myself that the loan structure didn't make any sense and I made that conclusion by watching her being interviewed for only about 2 minutes but she herself couldn't connect the dots. Any one who did simple interest in 5th grade should know that if you are only putting down money towards the interest and not the principal, it would be very hard to pay off the loan: Interest only loans are very predatory and prey on the mathematically illiterate: I can't believe a country like the US allows it. I was born, bred and still live in Nigeria and our interest rates have always been astronomical at about 25%- 30% per annum but they are waaaaaaay better than these evil interest-only loans.

Student loans are not something you should "set and forget". She should have been checking her balance every month from the beginning and she could have come to this realization after only a few months instead of a decade.

The cheapest date I ever went on was I took my wife to Rural King and ate free popcorn and walked around looking at the baby chicks. Otherwise, we regulalrly go on walks at our local park with the dog.

My kid is working at this exact moment, he is cleaning someone’s backyard. He is 14yo. Building his company already. No! I don’t want him to have a student loan! I’ll do whatever it takes to don’t allow this happens to him! I really feel sorry for the girl 😢

I wish not living paycheck to paycheck was a possibility for the millions and millions of people that only make 15$ an hour (not enough to do anything but scrape by), despite working at corporations that are making record breaking profits but only pay the workers, who do the actual work to create the actual value that the psychopaths at the top of these companies keep for themselves.

For everyone with a student loan, stop hoping the government will forgive it. Always pay more than the interest owed. And you will need to make your own amortization schedule to detail how much you need pay to pay it all off in x - years. If you only make the "minimum" payment, you will literally be paying it off forever. Also, please don't use debt financial instruments if you don't know what you are doing or how they work. Just don't. Even if its for college, because unless you are going to college with an exact plan of what you want and where you will go, you are just wasting money. Just go to a local community college you can afford, work part time while doing it, get all your pre-reqs out of the way, and then transfer to a 4 year, and finish it as fast as possible. Never go into college without a plan, and especially never get into debt if you have no idea how it works. And that's basically every college student.

Agreed about the student loans. My husband and I paid ours off within 18 months after he got a job and started working. Also, got the credit cards paid off in the same time frame. You just keep living like a college student for a couple extra years, and put every extra penny into the debts. Pay it off like it's an emergency, because it is.

For her to pay $120,000 in 10 years on her student loan means her (minimum) payment is $1,000/month. For her balance to only go down by $4,000, her interest rate must be 14% interest. I am naive to student loans, but are people actually signing up for $80,000 loans for 12%+ interest rates??

Cheapest date I’ve ever been on was about -$50 (yes, negative $50). I joined my wife on a DoorDash run and we just talked and connected the whole time. So we got paid to go on a “date”. One of the most memorable nights out we’ve ever had.

Cheapest Date: A long time ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and the restaurant Chi-Chi’s existed, my then boyfriend (now husband) would go there and sit in their lounge /big screen tv area where they would bring you endless free chips and refill your Pepsies. We ‘d go several times a week. And now you know why they went extinct with the dinosaurs.

Regarding the first vid. For a while I kept a balance of around $200 on my Bank of America acct. My net worth is close about 13k as I had most of my money in invested and in a high yield savings acct.
