My wife and I bought an old farm house back in the ‘80s ($16,000), but it didn’t have running water. We put that in (inexpensively) and didn’t have to worry about the kids destroying the house the way that kids do. In fact, many of their friends liked to come over, because they weren’t stressed about spilling anything on our old carpets, etc. We often had a dozen of kids over, and my wife would cook for them (simple things like “home made” Mac and cheese). Our motto was, “If you can catch it, you can eat it.” (Our dogs and cats were obviously fast enough to avoid being eaten). :) My wife and I are now very comfortably retired and “living the dream” in a log house in Montana. So, yeah, don’t spend all that you earn!

My wife’s idea of an ideal date was dinner at Sweet Tomatoes and then browsing the discount book tables at the Barnes & Noble bookstore. Started dating in 98 and married two years later. The way they are structured is insane and stupid. 10 year of your loan are a mix of negative amortization payments and interest only payments. Idk if George doesn’t read the comments but the student loan video doesn’t make mathematical sense that as a “money expert” he should know better. Below is my comment from the other video. “I hate that George just believes this TikTok without even giving it a thought if it's true or not. Either George doesn't know that the math is wayyyyy off which being a "money expert" you would think he would know better or he's just lying to push his views of "debt bad". Let me clarify why these numbers don't make sense. Given information: $80k starting balance 7% interest rate 10 year time frame $120k paid in total $76k current balance One of the way you can easily see this doesn't make sense is if lets say she never made a single payment and let the interest compound over 10 years at 7%. Using any compound interest calculator that total would be about $161k but somehow the amount she paid plus the current balance is $196K so those number don't even come close. Secondly if we assume she's making the same payments every month which obviously she is not and average out the $120k over 10 years is $1k a month, plug that into any debt paydown calculator and the debt would be paid off in 9 YEARS yet the amount is the same 10 years later?!?!?! This math ain't mathin so either she still doesn't understand how her student loans work or she is doing it for TikTok fame since this clip gets passed around a lot. Either way George should know better and people should see that he doesn't even understand how things work.”

@adeyosola4145 ай бұрын
@@dylanturner9628I too was thinking that the math was not mathing. It sounds like a private, high interest, interest only loan where the payments made are used to pay off the interest and not used towards the principal amount borrowed: if you only pay the interest and the principal doesn't get reduced, the interests will always increase and the loan will go on forever. I found out about this type of loan from an Inside Edition segment about student loans: as usual they chose the worst examples and interviewed people who weren't that smart about money or personal finance. The loan of one of the ladies interviewed seemed be structured in the same way this lady's student loan is structured: she complained saying 'and pay this amount monthly and I've been paying for a long time and it only goes towards interest and I still owe this.... large amount' and I thought to myself that 'duh if the principal isn't reducing therefore the interests will never reduce. I didn't know about interest only loans then but I thought to myself that the loan structure didn't make any sense and I made that conclusion by watching her being interviewed for only about 2 minutes but she herself couldn't connect the dots. Any one who did simple interest in 5th grade should know that if you are only putting down money towards the interest and not the principal, it would be very hard to pay off the loan: Interest only loans are very predatory and prey on the mathematically illiterate: I can't believe a country like the US allows it. I was born, bred and still live in Nigeria and our interest rates have always been astronomical at about 25%- 30% per annum but they are waaaaaaay better than these evil interest-only loans.

For everyone with a student loan, stop hoping the government will forgive it. Always pay more than the interest owed. And you will need to make your own amortization schedule to detail how much you need pay to pay it all off in x - years. If you only make the "minimum" payment, you will literally be paying it off forever. Also, please don't use debt financial instruments if you don't know what you are doing or how they work. Just don't. Even if its for college, because unless you are going to college with an exact plan of what you want and where you will go, you are just wasting money. Just go to a local community college you can afford, work part time while doing it, get all your pre-reqs out of the way, and then transfer to a 4 year, and finish it as fast as possible. Never go into college without a plan, and especially never get into debt if you have no idea how it works. And that's basically every college student.

Cheapest date I’ve ever been on was about -$50 (yes, negative $50). I joined my wife on a DoorDash run and we just talked and connected the whole time. So we got paid to go on a “date”. One of the most memorable nights out we’ve ever had.

Cheapest Date: A long time ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and the restaurant Chi-Chi’s existed, my then boyfriend (now husband) would go there and sit in their lounge /big screen tv area where they would bring you endless free chips and refill your Pepsies. We ‘d go several times a week. And now you know why they went extinct with the dinosaurs.

Regarding the first vid. For a while I kept a balance of around $200 on my Bank of America acct. My net worth is close about 13k as I had most of my money in invested and in a high yield savings acct.
