The genius of this song and most great songs is how it can have so many different meanings to people. How many people love this song and think about their dads, or their spouses/significant others. And then how many people know that George could've also been singing about gay sex? If you didn't know this, re-read the lyrics over and over again with this in mind, and you'll see how incredible it is to write something as great as this. Prince did it all the time too. You think it's about one thing, and then it's also about sex, or religion. Like Under the Cherry Moon. If you think about Cherry as being a woman's privates and Moon as her butt, and what being under it means, it adds a whole other meaning to the lyrics. Even the long version of Ella Fitzgerald's Bewitched, Bothered, Bewildered. Amazing song, it gets very risque at the very end. Great lyrics that are so sexy if you know what they're talking about. Very smart to be able to write like this. And to have it be a hit song. Pure genius :)

I guess that everyone fell in love with George because he was the perfect mix of masculinity and sweetness, especially in the "Faith era". This boy with a defined jaw, full lips, unshaven beard, hairy chest and gorgeous thick hair was the manliest of men and yet there was such sweetness in him that was also expressed by his soft, mesmerizing tone of voice when he spoke, not just when he sang. A gentle soul, you couldn't help but be charmed by him.

@@storytellaz5503 You're not wrong but that's not a comment on him, it's a comment on society that can't handle the fact that some people are gay. About 30 years before this video Alan Turing was chemically castrated for being gay [in the same country] after having won the intelligence war for the allied forces, shortening the war by at least two years, saving hundreds of thousands of lives. You'd think that would be enough to keep him out of the dog house but no, oh no, he was an indecent monster and had to be castrated. So, the fact that George Michael did not want to reveal that aspect of his personal life is not a surprise. Not even Freddie Mercury wanted to publicly acknowledge being gay [at least bisexual] because of how the public would perceive that. George Michael being in the closet was an act of self-preservation. The shame for that is on society not on him.

He could emote while singing like no other. The yearning, the tension, the sadness, all there in his voice.

Seriously. I was in my teens in the late 80s and there's nothing remotely like this on the airwaves these days. Hell, at this point you practically can't have a hit if you don't use autotune. This time was a rare moment when just about any sound could be heard on the radio.

The best years were the 80's-90's the best fun, really living and enjoying those years of youth to the fullest... with an incredible sense of freedom and real happiness. No social media to waste and destroy our neurons and our precious time.

@THINK DRAGON Well they are NOT like him, in terms of looks and sex appeal. I did not say succesful artist or musical talent, of course Paul, Elton, Freddie are greater in terms of musical talent! And all those you wrote are BEFORE George Michael! Jesus fkn christ indeed!
