What a great collection man. Wal basses also have the similar electronics, but their q switch is on the filters knob, so it is a push-pull pot . There are few builders making Wal and Alembic inspired electronics, like Lusithand and Underhill preamps. I want to try filter-based preamps too someday. The ability to voice each pickup differently and sweep your tone with the pan pot is very cool !!
@GeorgePriceBassАй бұрын
Hi mate, ah thanks! I've never played a Wal but I know the Alembic circuit has been a big influence on their sound! There are probably more but the Alembic Fx-1 and F2-B I think are filter based pre-amps? I'll need to double check that. What always amazes about me Alembic is the versatility of the bass and the electronics. They are just incredible really! Anyway, thanks for the watching the vid! Cheers

@@GeorgePriceBass these two preamps are based on Fenders tone stack preamp, the one based on state-variable filters is named a superfilter, SF1 preamp. Alembics are the best. I am fortunate to own two Alembic basses. A beautiful 6 string spoiler and a signature short scale - both are the bomb!

Excellent video! I am also a huge fan of Alembic basses. Always have been since the Stanley Clarke days. Then I discovered other great bass players who played them such as John Entwistle , Luis Johnson, and others. Even Prince played a Spoiler, I recently saw a picture of him playing one in his Purple Rain days. You're fortunate to have such a nice Alembic collection :) I have over 50 basses but only 1 Alembic and its the Epic, even through the Epic is one of the lower end models of Alembic basses its a tone monster and easy to deal in a good tone, its one of my favorites in my collection. I own a recording studio and love having the versatility of sounds. I must say my Epic brings out that Alembic tone I grown to love over the years even though it doesn't have the Q-filter. That's actually a plus because you can quickly dial in the tone your looking for for a particular song. I have deiced recently to add another Alembic to the collection, I am looking at the Excel & Rouge, I love the pup placement on the Excel with the Fat Boy pups. I also love the versatility of tones you get from the Rouge. As a studio owner its all about setting in the mix for me and versatility. What I also love about Alembic as company is they take great care in the quality in the basses they build and are all small shop and only produce a small amount of basses per year. I have spoken with Mica on many occasions and her knowledge and passion is 2nd to none. Almost on a weekly bases I get asked if I could keep only one bass out of my collection which would that be? LOL And for years I have been trying to answer that question. As a studio owner I would say I must have for me would be a Pbass, Jbass, Musicman and Alembic. I would say for me that would cover all the your needs basically, again this is just my opinion as a business owner. As a bass player it would be my 78 J bass, my Pbass with the reverse EMG pups, my double EMG pup Musiciman and of course my Alembic (Alembic will alway be a main stay in my collection, just cuts through the mix. LOL I left out so many other basses that are contenders as well. How long did it take you to build up your Alembic collection? Sub!

Hi, thanks so much! There are so many Alembic players, probably more than I can rhyme off, all however are legends in their own right! Over 50 basses is WILD, pretty sure John Entwistle was approaching that number? I've never played an Epic however, I have some Alembic pals and they love theirs. I agree that Alembic take great care in what they produce. Their friendliness and skills/craftsmanship are unmatched and yes, the wait for customs can be a while but I do feel like you get what you pay for. Mica and her whole team are really great and know their stuff. I've been playing for about 15 ish years. My first Alembic was the Leap of Faith Series II which I got around 20ish - I think. I'm nearly 30 now. The collection has obviously grown in a fairly rapid fashion but only due to them all being purchased second hand at nice deals - so no waiting time on the builds. I'd love a custom to my spec one day but when the time is right and it presents itself to me. For now, I would say I more than covered for literally ANY eventuality work wise. Cheers!

@@GeorgePriceBass LOL trust me I get in a lot of trouble for having so many basses and guitars. My wife gives me an ear full every day ahahaha. I am like you, I get what I can used or I use Sweetwater. But as far as the Alembics goes you're right, I can only afford used. Here in the states even the used Alembics prices can be sky high :( The lower end models are a bit more reasonable per se, but any of the higher models can cost as much as $40k and up! Maybe one day like you I can get a custom build, but as a studio owner I would much prefer investing that kind of money into the studio.

Hey Jazzy, thanks for watching! As we know, Alembic owners, due to the class and prestige associated with the basses often take great care of their basses and in most cases are pretty much mint condition! Hope to see you again soon!

My GAWD that Alembic is gorgeous. I regret selling my Stanley Clarke, Essence, Epics, years ago, but I still own my Europa, and Elan, which is my favorite Alembic I've ever owned because the set neck on ash with pao ferro fret board is absolutely perfect. It also has Europa electronics and two fat boys. You have THE BEST Alembic collection.

What a gorgeous bass. Great demo, as usual. Pan used to be unusual, but these days it’s standard on most 2-pickup active basses. Alembic stereo electronics (series 1 & 2, anniversary) are all twin volume. Volume, volume, tone was first seen on the Fender Jazz. It was largely because of you that I finally got a Series 1 short scale. Best bass I’ve ever owned.

Thanks for feedback and clarification on the electronics. I like the pan option, it's just something that little extra unique, especially more so when used in a creative fashion. Congrats on the Series 1. Alembic never disappoints me, I always get so much joy when playing them. Cheers!

I don't know which model or series it was, but Norman Watt Roy played an Alembic on the Ian Dury and The Blockheads " Hold on to your structure " concert which is available on DVD .... I think it can also be found here on KZbin. Norman's playing and tone on and from that Alembic are superb , plus his Trace Elliot gear also played a big part in the fantastic tone as well ...

@GeorgePriceBass2 ай бұрын
Hi! So I'm fairly sure the Dragon is inspired by the Warwick Buzzard bass - which is also a crazy bass. John's bass was carbon fibre and a real tone machine! Alembic clearly wanted to try and create something similar with their Dragon Wing style. I've seen a picture of his collection and he was nuts enough to have such a wide range of basses. He did indeed own an Explorer and he made it look like a toy bass!! Cheers!

Hi, great question! All the basses you see have been purchased second hand for REALLY good deals. Buying them new (although I'd love to) is sadly not an option currently. I'm a full time musician - so teaching, busking, gigs, remote recording, session work and whatever else I can get. I'm sensible with money in terms of not buying/spending on stupid stuff. I work hard and save and that's literally it. My yearly wage is nothing close to what you've said above but maybe one day?! How come you're moving from guitar to bass? Welcome to the family!! Cheers
