Ferns are a long lasting easy plant that don't get ruined by the slugs and snails.

Beautiful garden. I love the ferns planted on mass it gives such a cool vibe and atmosphere to the garden. I thought I used a few ferns in my garden but I definitely need to up my game to get to this level 😅 I've not been to Brodsworth Hall since I was a kid, so a trip is definitely on the cards. Great video as always George 👍

Thanks! Yes, I think they're great for the lower level / 'underbelly' planting they're great in a jungle style garden. Obviously you can have a tapestry of unusual exotics but the ferns are a reliable and cost effective way of creating the effect in shady spots too. Nice one, I hope you enjoy your visit!

so much about Georgina's approach and her garden style I align to. Very nice to see it done so well.

Very true Jody and I completely agree. It's refreshing to see what can be done without having a lot of money for rarities and specimen plants and how for most people you can still create a jungle look without needing a lot of winter care. I probably should have used words like 'tough', 'hardy' and 'backbone' rather than 'basic' all the time but you know what I mean, we all know how in theory we can create an amazing garden with ferns and hardy exotics but it's great to see it in practice and done so beautifully.

Hello and thank you very much! That's very kind of you. I do try to show a range of different gardens and in a world where a lot of people seem to chase bigger and better, it's refreshing to see simplicity, hard work and time create a really beautiful space. Good luck with your gardening plans!

All those plants are easy to get and common but she really cooked with this combination. Looks like a secret trail to the Amazon. Ferns are brilliant for filling up shady areas that tropicals don’t do well. Gotta pick some native ferns later!
@GeorgesJungleGardenАй бұрын
Absolutely, you've put it better than me! Easy and common doesn't have to mean 'boring' and with some time, design and creativity the result is 100% jungle without a lot of the expensive and winter worries. I hope you got some good ones!

Wow George. This is a good one. Love ferns too. Thinking of taking about going a fernery at my north facing border. Would love to hear Georginas suggestions for unusual but not expensive -evergreen ferns. I have a woodwardia and like the different pinnate leaves. Think I have lots of others but top 5 evergreen ferns with different leaf forms would be great to hear.

Just when I think you can’t top yourself you are able to find yet another truly awesome pure jungle feeling tropical garden. I took lots of notes. It gave me a better feel for the garden I want to achieve. The use of ferns was so amazing plus the different yuccas which I’ve got to admit I may have overlooked as part of my over all vision of a jungle garden. Thanks so much man

That's so kind of you to say, thank you very much! Yes, the simplicity and restraint plus time and creativity really give it that proper jungle feel don't they. It's lovely to see and yes, the Cordylines and Trachycarpus really do help give it that exotic jungle canopy. It certainly proves that it's often the more common or subtle looking plants that really help create atmosphere in a garden and I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

At 40:32 is that a blue-ish / light purple-ish Thalictrum (meadow rue)? I've been looking for one for years and by chance saw one at a garden visit, took a photo and asked one of the gardeners about it. It turns out that the reason I've not been able to get on, is every time I visited a garden centre, I went looking for a plant with a name that began with a G. Somehow, for years, I thought they were tall gypsophilas and couldn't find any. Turns out slugs don't like them either and they're in the buttercup family, yet don't grow like weeds, which is good because weeds don't do that well here. Our "weeds" tend to be yews, hollies, campsis, grapes and passionflowers, with the odd nettle. Never seen a buttercup in my plot, so should I be concerned about meadow rue not doing well also? As for ferns, yeah, we do like them. Something about them. Along with the one tree ferns which we do have to wrap-up for winter in case of -10°C, and while it's frond production has nearly trebled in the three years I've had it, the fronds have been getting shorter and shorter so by next year it might look more like a soft wire brush, we have a few others we no longer have name tags for, but they look fascinating. We did add a couple more last year. They did look cute and interesting and fern-y, but apart from the tree fern, we usually associate ferns as hardy. Not these two. Only when I was planting them did I notice the required temperature range had to be above 5°C. They didn't even last till November
