For future reference, the microphone shown at 3:54 is a u67 not an 87. You can tell by the color of the badge and the swivel mount used. U87s didn't use a swivel.

What do you think about vocal mic shields like I see in the video? I've heard mixed reviews about how effective or useful they are
@jeffnuts2402
@jeffnuts2402 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think you’re gonna hear much difference if you don’t have an acoustically treated room
@AUDiLETHEOLOGY
@AUDiLETHEOLOGY Жыл бұрын
It generally depends on the mic because large diaphragm condensers (which make up a large majority of the microphone types used in hip hop and rap) usually have a nice detailed high end if you look in the manuals you will see a spectral graph that shows the significant character of the mic and which bands are emphasized in that mic and often the high end on the expensive mics are so detailed that even with it being focused towards the artist the room can introduce comb filtering which bleeds into the recording but can be blocked by the shield which will focus the sound coming in from the artist and absorb a lot of the room tonality that can sneak in your recording.

Way too overyhped. I have a aston halo. Does fuck all, don’t buy the hype acoustic treatment is where its at (and not talking about “foam” which does very little under 600 hz) dense fiberglass
@youngmarcy7087
@youngmarcy7087 Жыл бұрын
these things are useless don't buy them invest in a great mic and interface (with great converters) instead. use plugin spl De-verb to get rid of reverb. free game.
@NoQualmsTheArtist
@NoQualmsTheArtist Жыл бұрын
The part that actually captures the audio, the front. Has nothing in front of it and the rear of the mic that rejects the sound the foam is in front of. So does it do something, sure. Does it do a lot, not really. The Kaotica Eyeball does a lot more to reject the room, but has a tone of it's own so you have to weigh up the compromises.

anyone done some testing on reflection shields? i have one of the eyeball foams you put over the mic and and it does cut down room tone but sounds worse overall when i a/b. i stopped putting up the shield we have a the studio because we got an sm7b which is pretty good at that anyway but i haven't done any real a/b tests on condenser mics
@chrispanetta9885
@chrispanetta9885 Жыл бұрын
at 300$ cad, with some tools and workmanship, you can buy the material to make acoustic panels that will do a better job reducing reflections. If people can't put up anything on their walls, you can make them standalone by building stands too. It takes more space than a foam ball or filter but eliminates comb filtering and other issues that come from these devices.

i have the eyeball as well and it’s perfect for me. but also that has a lot to do with my vocal chain. to each their own but i’d stick w the eyeball and figure out exactly where to eq in order to cut out the boominess it might create :)
