I'd like to apologise for the conduct of my ancestors. I will therefore establish a scholarship in the name of those who suffered at their hands. I'd especially like to apologise for the actions of King Gudfred towards the Obotrites. I know it was 1200 years ago, but those wounds I'm sure still hurt. Thankyou.

Everyone talks about selling their slaves to save Georgetown financially but nobody talks about the back breaking planting and picking tobacco. The slaves were sold to a man in Louisiana. What a justification. The descendants should be able to go to Georgetown for free and get a monthly stipend.

@@fleecejohnson7261 Exactly. I hate the "America owes us" mentality of blk "progressives." We don't deserve to be given free things because bad things happened in the past to people with a similar skin tone to ours. Being self reliant is the right way to go. All this blame game nonsense is not helpful. The way these whiners complain you would think they were enslaved themselves; and of course they certainly were not. Lazy people nowadays wanna accept paychecks for work they themselves did not do. People need to stop appropriating the terrible experiences of others to try to get some free money.

The descendants need to receive legacy admission ASAP - not complicated

Saffron Sinclair Of course they would need to apply first! I’m not saying they all would get a letter in the mail that’s says “Come all!” but the approval rate needs to be far greater than any “other” legacy applicant - no comparison.

Show me the injured and guilty party for the reparation. Failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted

Since so many "former slaves" only moved to the USA in the last 30 years...Lets just say it doesn't do the actual victimized families any favors. When reparations are brought up I am open to that for sure. Problem is almost every black person in the public eye pretends they suffered under slavery. Even if they moved here in the 1990's they seem to blame Americans for something that did not happen to them in America at all. Those few people are ruining the actual chances of reparations for ACTUAL black Americans that ACTUALLY had family members/ancestors experience slavery. People that come from a different country and complain about it are just doing it for attention. The actual Black people who went through it should be the only ones that are compensated. Not the random person who just moved here in 2002.

I tell you how to do it. Give them a memorial right there on the grounds. You have an erected statue of a white man but none of the slaves
@kylecaudill9261

So two generations from now do your relatives get to sue because they weren't compensated directly if they still feel victimized? How about 2 generations after them? This has nothing to do with slavery and everything to do with money. If the lawsuit stopped with a statue to recognize those individuals sold then I'd think this was about awareness but if anyone makes money over this this because selfish and greedy.

So @5:02...I guess that means no Georgetown WON'T be offering legacy status. The president punted by saying Georgetown should increase higher education access, what he didn't say was how Georgetown will show their gratitude to the descendants. I look forward to how they will memorialize the slaves, conversations are good, actions are better!

1crazysistah its complicated all right lol perhaps because the schools donors date back to slavery and cant stand the site of admitting the wrongs through the dollars they’ve benefited from.

It to the horror and blood of the Civil War to put an end to slavery in America. Thank God for giving us the strength and opprtunity to end this horrific unconstitutional institution.

They asked her how she should get paid, wow.. the best answer would have been ' I'll have to speak with someone experienced and make sure other living descendants of the Georgetown slaves get closure and reparations as well.' "something for my niece and nephew" WOW. The Jews didn't ask for 'something' neither did the Indians, they had people who could calculate the damage in term of currency, present proof of the damage caused and get it for many generations. This is wild.

But the other side of the coin is that descendants of slaves may not necessarily have the same opportunities afforded to those who are not thanks to the incomes their families have.
