Georgia dispute over Russia flights overshadows Independence Day

The Republic of Georgia has celebrated its national day.
But a dispute is growing after the resumption of direct flights between Tbilisi and Moscow.
The government says it cannot risk provoking Russia, which is an important trade partner.
But opponents say it has a moral responsibility to back Ukraine, and draw closer to the European Union.

Georgia is geographically located between Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. While Ukraine was neutral, Russia annexed Crimea and entered its military units in Donbas starting this war. That was a result of neutrality and also a result of Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons. If Ukraine either kept its nuclear weapons and strategic bombers (which Russia is using now to strike Ukraine’s civilian and military targets), or were a NATO member, Russia wouldn’t dare to invade Ukraine. As neighbor and as Azerbaijani, I can understand the frustration of Georgians. Russia, in general shouldn't have a say in Caucasus, but in terms of safety we have to play their tricks. Communism really destroyed Caucasus. I do personally love Russia and its people, but the regime is hostile against almost everyone. It's not about being part of the Soviet Union. It's about joining NATO so close to our border. Russia had 2 armed conflicts with 2 formet republics - Ukraine and Georgia. Those two who are planning to join NATO. Russia has excellent relations with Belorussia, former republic as well, and never undermined it's independence, on the contrary helped them to keep it.
