I'm just now learning how to do carpentry. Why does there have to be a 1/8th inch gap between the panels? I was thinking that they need to be as tight as can be to help prevent bugs etc from getting in. Hope its not a stupid question.

I think it's for expansion bc it's wood, it'll eventually settle into an expanded state.
