This brings back memories! Dad had a '76 two door LTD in silver with blue cloth interior. It did not have the hide-away headlamps, and I think it had a landau roof, can't remember though. I remember the doors being so huge. It's demise was in the summer of '81 when my father and I went on a road trip to Dayton, OH to the air museum. Ford had the brilliant idea if running the fuel line over the distributor and it caught fire. We rented a Toyota Corolla for the drive home.

Jay, you're so smart with cars old and new, but you keep saying "2 valve" even though the air cleaner says "400 2-V". The "V" stands for venturi, of which in this car are 2. The car has a 400 cubic inch engine with a "2 barrel" carburetor. Nonetheless, that LTD is definitely a car worth saving and fixing up. Those 70's big Fords and GMs had a ride and comfort folks today can only dream about.
@MXguy95
@MXguy95 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve never been able to shake that. For years I’ve done that. I’ve been ruined by Japanese cars branding the number of valves. And I know it means Venturi but I’m apparently retarded and can’t stop saying it when the camera is rolling 😅
@69Dartman
@69Dartman 4 жыл бұрын
We all have ways of saying things out of playfulness or we just don't know quite the right word, I wouldn't get too upset about it, we all know exactly what you meant. Every manufacturer seemed to put tiny carbs on their smaller big blocks like there, that'll save some gas. My Dart with the stock 318 got 12.7 in town till I added a 4bbl then it was 10 to 11 but more fun to drive. I think the best I got was barely 12 after I put a Thermo Quad on it and drove really easy a few times. It is a spread bore so they have very small primary bores like a Quadrajet so can get decent mileage if you drive nice on a smallish engine.

I grew up living with my widowed grandmother. Her 'boyfriend,' had '77 LTD, cream yellow with a tan roof. I liked the new car smell while it lasted. I didn't consider it to be anything special...as it was very plain...power steering & brakes, A/C, AM/FM radio, front bench seat and that was it. Looking back now, I remember it as a quiet, stable highway cruiser, really comfortable. It's hard to find anything half so comfortable nowadays. Modern cars, unless you buy a SUV, make you feel you're sitting in a teacup.

We had one of those brand new in '77. Had the 351w I believe. Ours was gold colored with the vinyl top but it didn't have the headlight covers. Back when I lived in Tennessee I used to get stung by those red wasps so often and got so used to it that eventually i just slapped them like mosquitos to kill 'em. They'd only raise a welt about the size of a mosquito bite and it'd be gone in a few hours. I finally set off bug bombs in the attic of that old house I lived in and that took care of the majority of 'em. I miss the "boulevard rdie" of those old land yachts. You could drive big cars all day long and feel just fine at the end of the day. Modern cars with their stiff suspensions will make ya feel like you've been beaten by the end of a day of driving.

Nice looking LTD. My parents had a 78 ltd station wagon same color. They got it brand new in 78 when I was born. Theirs had a 351. Wish theirs had AC was a hot ride going from Michigan to Maine every summer. About the only option it had was cruise control. They pulled a 28 foot camper with it. Try finding a car today that can do that. They traded it in for a brand new 85 fox body LTD. The station wagon had 78,000 miles on it when they traded it in.

Jay I still have my 1977 LTD Landau, with fender skirts, and factory sun-roof, it is Silver and Burgandy 2dr , special order with a 460-4V. When you come across either a 2V or a 4V the V stands for either a 2 or a 4 Venturi carberator and not how many valves it has per cylinder, when the auto industry changed to fuel injection they dropped the Venturi amount just going with what ever kind of EFI it has. Thanks for your great u-tube channel. Fellow American hearhead Steve Sobiegray

I noticed one of the flip up headlight flaps is up even with the engine off and lights off.. that usually indicates a bad vacuum actuator. Under normal operation I believe the pump releases vac pressure on the line to allow the doors to raise up. When the lights are off the vacuum is increased closing the doors. And it should hold that pressure for a long while after shutdown. But if there is a leak you can actually turn the lights on then off quickly and the broken actuator will actually make the light look like it’s winking..

Ordinary cars are business I guess, but I love it when you feature big American cars like this one. You now have your 600th Like. Not that long ago, these cars were as cheap as chips in the UK. Now we have slightly less draconian laws regarding classic cars, however there is now no more room to safely drive a full size car here, plus, they are now more expensive to buy. A nice car !

The Landau model was the top of the line LTD in 1977. I remember seeing one on the Showroom floor in the summer of 1977. The interior I remember being nicer as well as the woodgrain accents. These look more like the LTD Brougham, but it does say Landau. There must have been an upgrade for the interior. Also the hubcaps are pretty basic for a Landau. I usually saw them wearing fancy albums dish wheels with a center cap. It does look better without the rear fender skirts that most of the Landaus had. Suprised that Ford didn't upgrade the dome light for the top line cars. I guess the dome light with the dual map lights was still part of the light group or I think Ford called it Visability Group. Definitely worth saving and I love dove gray. So the car would be stunning with new paint.

I had a similar car in 1995. I bought it to get to work while my 84 Nissan pickup was down (head gasket). It had very cold air, too! I think mine was a 75. Lots of room in that one.
