Elliott’s family has still been living in Columbia, SC the last seven years since he took the Georgia State job and it’s his daughter’s senior year of high school and he stated he promised her he’d be there for her final year of high school. He’s even said he thought about just not coaching this year but then this opportunity became available.

This is a HUGE WIN for the Gamecocks. Coach Elliott is an elite offense line coach ( SC really needs that) and he will working with Nick Harbor at TE plus other 4 stars. He will be with his children and the pay will be the same. Go Cocks !!!!

This was a family oriented move . Elliot has always maintained a house in Columbia SC. His kids go to school here. It's more of coming home to be with his family for the same money. As for timing that's on Justin Stepp.

As a Georgia State alum, I'm not mad he left, but it's the timing that is despicable. We have been decimated by the portal the last couple of seasons with Jamari Thrash, Marcus Carroll, and Robert Lewis move on to the P5. The way CFB is going unless you're at least a high-end G5 program such as App State, Tulane, and Liberty, you might be better off eliminating your football program altogether. Also, reportedly, CSE already had an extension that would've kept him at Georgia State until 2026.

Are you gonna see a lot of the smaller programs lose their coaches because they’re just a minor-league team for the bigger programs like go through all the stress of recruiting you get somebody good and you lose them in a year it’s not worth it

The timing was because of when the job became open. Had that job been open a month earlier, the move would have been a month earlier. But a month earlier, there was not a job opening at South Carolina. And he was not leaving for any other school than South Carolina.

Shawn Elliot going to South Carolina was not NIL-related. He had wanted to get back to coaching at South Carolina for several years now. He actually still lived in Columbia when he did not have to be in Atlanta. His family never left Columbia.

SC would have been smart to hire him in 2016. I think he could have built on what Spurrier had put in place but instead they had to go with the bigger name. I believe our offense will be much improved by this hire.
