@Quickmotion6.4 I don't think Mopar had anything but the Viper that could actually beat a Terminator Cobra until the Hellcat- especially on a track. It came out in the mid 00s. The GT500 also exists and was better at the quarter mile than any SRT8 until the Hellcat. Now just a regular GT is better than any of Mopar's offerings- which is nothing!

This is a 07 ish Mustang GT here . They really under powered with the 3 valve 4.6 v8. The only made 300hp 320ftlbs at 3600lbs, that Charger should at least easily keep pace with it.

You can tell by the taillights that it is the 2005-2009 S197 Mustang with the 4.6 modular engine with 300HP so the Charger RT would have no problem keeping up since those are putting down closer to 400HP. 😁

The race started out on Bass Cross road, then left on "this here road" (Mountville-Hogansville road to Ga. Hwy 54, where he turned left. He hopped the RR tracks in Hogansville before running across U. S. Hwy 29. Continuing on Ga 54 then crossing over U. S. 27 and onto Philpot Ferry road. If the trees had not stopped him he would have been in West Point Lake. It's about 50 feet from where the Mustang stopped.

But the disparity in acceleration isn't as big as people might think, since 3800 pounds is considered "light", these days. Mustang guy here, the old 4.6L engines besides the 2003-2004 Cobra need boost because the engines carried an old formula of wanting to be supercharged. In its Naturally aspirated form it can’t outrun 5.7 without reworking the engine, older technology needs upgrades.

First, and that's why we pick on Mustang drivers, he had plenty of time to see the road ending and had plenty of time to put that car into a sideways slide to stay out of the trees instead of just slamming straight ahead. Second, what you said about the Trooper having a job to do even without knowing how many folks/weapons/etc may be in the car reminds me of a book a friend loaned me years about the West Virginia state cops. One of their troopers told the story about his barely meeting the height/weight minimums and got to chasing an old truck down a dirt logging road and didn't realize no one was getting his radio messages as his antenna got ripped off the cruiser by tree branches and when the truck stopped the driver jumped out and was a 6'6" 320 pound lumberjack who kept saying he didn't want to go jail. Trooper said his blood pressure, adrenaline and every other vital sign must have been through the roof thinking how bad this lumberjack was going to beat him so the 4th or 5th time the guy said he didn't want to jail he drew his sidearm and said he would shoot him if he took another step towards him and then said his vitals all dropped out even lower than they had been high when the lumberjack said "Oh no sir, I ain't gonna fight ya, just asking you not to take me to jail."

That always happens. As soon as the trooper gets out of his vehicle walks towards the perpetrator vehicle and then the perpetrator vehicle takes off to get a Head Start. Why can't the trooper have some stop sticks in his hand and throw them in front of the back tire. I have seen this happen with the utah state police where they pull somebody over and they put stop sticks in front of their back tire.

When you've got tens/hundreds of thousands of square miles in your jurisdiction, thousands of miles of roads in your jurisdiction and patrol that jurisdiction by different sector assignment every shift, being able to name every back road you turn onto during a pursuit isn't happening when half those street name signs don't exist. Trooper waiting for Mustang to crash is giving a dangerous, out of control driver the opportunity to potentially kill innocent people. There were spots he could have tried for a PIT.
