You really need to watch more than a few episodes of Family Guy to understand some of the running jokes in the series and who the characters are. Like how Meg is always ignored and that’s why nobody paid attention when she was shot. The fighting chicken is probably one of the most famous recurring jokes. There are usually some references in the series that are pretty stealthy, too.

Family Guy offends because they can. South Park offends because you deserve it. 😉 Family Guy, American Dad, South Park are a reflection of society. They don't make fun of marginalized groups or stereotypes in particular, but of the people who actually do such things. That's Humor. We need to laugh because something else is horrible.

Wanted to say that the humour in FG is offensive it's funny and it makes you laugh. The issue these days is that people are so easily offended by everything and anything and dark humour should be suppressed but this and South Park do it because they can they are established and have had a fair share of controversy but they know that there is a core group of people who are not offended by any of it get it. Bloody funny in places. Comedy is meant to offend but it also offends because it's funny and that's the bloody point of it.

One of the reasons for both shows success is neither have ever apologised for anything. The fun police have given up trying to censor it! Trey and Matt Parker who created South Park once did an episode on trans women in sport. They got widely criticised for it. Next time they were seen in public they were dressed in drag 😂😂

South Park certainly hits harder, if by definition you mean shock value. Family Guy I could say is classier than South Park in the respect that it takes a more subtle route to its punchlines, it's less political, and not to mention highly repetitive. For this fact, and with my sense of humour, South Park just edges ahead of Family Guy as far as joke delivery. Either way, they're masters in their own rights, but only one is master in its class.

so, as a huge fan of both Family Guy and South Park. they're both great, but the South Park compilations don't do the show justice. if you do end up reacting to full episodes, you'll really gain a better appreciation for it (though you might have to do some crafty editing to get by copyright)
