I live in Germany and attend a Romanian church, so last night was familiar and yet not. This morning I was looking for the Pascha troparia in English so I could sing along with it. I could sing it by myself and often do this time of year, but I wanted other voices with me. I know the Russian melodies from home and the "new" one with an Appalachian sound and I love them. I have never heard this one before but it is amazing. It will be part of my new in-my-head-Pascha-playlist. Thank you for sharing it. Christ is risen! Hristos a-înviat! Christus ist auferstanden!

Christ is Risen!!! Indeed He is Risen!!! So exultant, so wonderful! So filled with the ineffable joy of Christ‘s Resurrection from the dead! For us He did this, that we would rise with Him, not only from death, not only to biological life, but to true and eternal Life at the Right hand of God the Father! This is why He took upon Himself human flesh and human nature entirely, that he could exalt it to the right hand of God! Alleluia, alleluia! To Him be glory and praise forever. Amen.

@@StSymeon I think the words "trampling down" is a bad translation, as it is very visualizative translation - you can imagine phisically trampling down something Could be not important, could be very important as this is about fundamental views on the world; and tombs are seen as tombs while it simply implies graves, not tombs in particular (as in modern english tombs are basically luxury graves) Shared my two centes as they say!
@leabugmp4 жыл бұрын
@@FirstnameLastname-py3bc I am not a linguist or translator, but this is the standard English translation used by the jurisdiction this parish is part of.
@johnpaulhumphrey29813 жыл бұрын
Christ is Risen Firstname Lastname! I know this is a year late, but I thought I would give my two cents. I did not translate this, so I am not an authority. But "trampling down death" seems to echo "he shall bruise your head" in Genesis 3:15 and "He must reign until he puts all enemies under his feet" Also, Psalm 67:21 (LXX, 68 MT) "God will crush the heads of his enemies" and again vs 23 "That thy foot may be dipped in blood." So the image of physically trampling down something is very biblical. I am not enough of a scholar to comment on tombs vs graves, but many translations translate Bible passages with the word "tomb" instead of grave. In Palestine it seems tombs were more common. (Abraham buying a cave to bury Sarah in, a stone in front of Christ Tomb, Lazarus in the tomb. My translation of Psalm 67 mentions the Tombs, and in Matthew it says that the tombs were opened and after the resurrection many came out. Perhaps graves works better in English, though personally I have never been bothered by the word tomb. Tomb seems to be more consistent with Jewish practice, though I could be wrong about that.
