John B Gordon is my favorite civil war general. Tough as nails mentally n physically. His book "Reminiscences of the civil war" is amazing read.

Thank you for this; I love Gordon. He is my favorite Confederate general. I have the Don Troiani print of him at Gettysburg hanging on my wall. ❤😊

My G-G-Grandfather, John McCall enlisted as a private with Company H, 10th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Wilcox County Rifles, on 20 May, 1861. He was promoted to 4th Corporal on 15 June, 1861 and to First Lieutenant on 2 December, 1864. John W. McCall saw action in the following engagements: Seven Days Battle; Gettysburg; The Wilderness; Spotsylvania Court House; and the Shendandoah Valley Campaign. He died in 1924.

Much love. Gordon and a lot of Georgians don’t get enough love. Georgia had the best brigades from either army (Gordon, Anderson, Benning, Semmes, Wofford, Doles, Wright, Thomas).

Great video Aaron. Good information about Gordon. All these actions coming less than a year after nearly drowning in his own blood at Antietam. Keep up the good work.

Really incredible he was at Gettysburg. Funny enough making this video I realized all his photos were from the right profile of his face, likely to hide his Antietam wound

You may want to study a little more on Gordon's life. There is a New York Times article of Gordon and Barlow meeting again on Barlow's Knoll on July 1, 1888, the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. The following morning, Barlow and Gordon met on the site of the first day’s battle. According to The New York Times: ‘The two men met for the second time in 25 years and the meeting was rather affecting. Gen. Barlow was left on the field on the first day’s fight. He was found by Gen. Gordon, who not only saw that he was taken care of, but allowed Mrs. Barlow to come through the lines to nurse her husband.’ The Times account of the generals’ personal reunion at Gettysburg provides more evidence supporting the veracity of their wartime encounter. Furthermore, the story’s appearance in a major New York daily gave Barlow a superb opportunity to dismiss it as bogus. He did not. PS: The KKK accreditation all started with the phrase, "was generally acknowledged to be the titular leader of the Ku Klux Klan in Georgia during the late 1860s ." Note the word, "titular" which few people care to look up the meaning of the word and many others remove that word when quoting changing it to read; " was generally acknowledged to be the leader of the Ku Klux Klan in Georgia during the late 1860s. A completely new statement altogether. Go look up , Titular. I do not abide ignorance as an excuse. The first time Gordon gave his speech, Last Days of the Confederacy, ( which included the Barlow/Gordon story) was at the Tabernacle of Brooklyn. Guess where Barlow, now a prominent political figure lived; New York. Gordon was invited back to do his speech a week or so later at Carnegie Hall.

My ancestor, Capt. Joseph P. Carson, from Reynolds, Ga. went into business with Gen. Gordon after the war, but they had a breakup over something. Carson fought at Petersburg, captured Union Ft. Stedman and later was captured himself.

I firmly believe that Gordon ran into Barlow on Blocker's knoll that fateful day. Gordon certain talked about it late in life and it first appeared in published stories in 1879. Did Gordon embellish it? Certainly - in order to press home the need to move forward and reconcile. He was not a big believer in the Lost Cause, and I don't give the KKK accusations any credibility. Was Barlow delusional after being wounded on July 1st and not one to be relied on for detailed facts? Absolutely, but over the rest of their lives there was enough cross over references to the event to make it highly likely.
