What makes this case particularly unpleasant is that Girardi was seemingly defrauding people who were not only legally entitled to that money, but also desperately needed it to help rebuild their lives after whatever misfortune had befallen them. All in the interests of perpetuating a lifestyle of gross excess.

Rich people don’t think normally. Like literally, large amounts of money does things to your brain. They view spending like they can’t fast enough as something to be proud of, and it’s never to help anyone, it’s got to be for themselves or that doesn’t count in their club where everyone else is below them and they deserve everything for no reason. Almost every awful thing you can think of rich people as being like, is pretty much how they really are.

She was lying though, SHE doesn't own any, not even the one in Pasadena. However, she did spend obscene amounts of money for her manufactured music career, it never earned her money - it always cost her money (until just before Covid, hit when she actually started getting some mainstream interest in her music and had a collaboration or two- but there is a back story regarding her #1 "hits."). He had a couple properties, but he really didn't own any of them either. He had them all mortgaged (not positive if he did on the Pasadena home though). He was pretty much running a ponzi-like scheme, where he used new client money to pay the old clients. It doesn't technically classify as one, because they weren't investors). What a sham though, and she was spending so much on luxury stuff it's insane. She even did so after she was subpoenaed about a case where Tom was sued by victims, so she knew , After there was a court order to freeze assets, she was trying to sell them off. She also put in a claim to get $600,000.00 out of the sale of the house, before the creditors and victims - which will delay those victims seeing a dime. She is just awful imo. DISCLAIMER: everything above this is based on word on the street, news reports, and opinions - these are not verified facts. Everything I mentioned is allegedly, except the subpoena I mentioned, and she was a no-show for court, citing that she was traveling for work as her excuse.

@smartalix5295
@smartalix5295 3 жыл бұрын
@@ASmith-jn7kf well, I was referring to something said by a lawyer about the case and his assets. It was my understanding that he owned very few things free and clear. I have multiple properties myself, but only own one office building free and clear, and I don't have anything with multiple mortgages (meaning I have never taken a second mortgage on my homes). The lawyer was struck by how little he actually owned outright, which surprised me too, given the fact they had two planes and Tom had been so successful all of his life. He also didn't put Erika on any of his properties. I personally believe he put some stuff in other people's names to protect the assets in case of this very thing. After all, he had already been sued two yrs ago, and I think he knew this was always a possibility. I think that based on someone's assertion that the place Erika is leasing is owned by one of the lawyers who worked at the firm. I dont know that to be a fact, and I honestly don't even know for sure if the lawyer was correct about Tom's assets for that matter. However, I do know Tom was smart enough to get away with this stuff for a very long time, so he's certainly smart enough to hide assets. If covid hadn't happened, I doubt this would've played out until after his death, if at all.

It's a recurring theme through the Housewives shows. Fraud. Teresa & Joe were dumb enough to go on TV after committing fraud, Apollo (and Phaedra, but she got away with it), Tom and Erika and now Jen Shah has the SDNY after her, with her arrest recently. These people put themselves out there when they have such skeletons in their closets, so they can't complain when they get caught out. There are more Housewives who may not have committed fraud but they've attached attention for the wrong reasons, like assault, tax problems and money disputes. The whole thing has got messy.

It's an interesting story. Plus, the LA Times has been investigating them so he has loads of info on it to pull from. I suspect that If she had not been on real housewives, he could have stayed under the radar. So many corrupt people a over the world stay secret. But narcissists often want all the attention in the world. I'd find it interesting to see if every state basically has these guys. Every adviser is listed, as it should be. See who the dodgy bastards are running the show behind the scenes. I also think the story or corruption often is "If I fought them, I'd be destroyed. So I looked the other way. Eventually, I got a bit myself." California is just large enough to have newspapers that can make money from uncovering graft. I wonder how many small towns and even cities with a million people who are run be similar cliques. Not even government centered. But powerful and rich enough to have control over governments by being "major citizens" who people feel are too powerful to ever go against.

@@letsburn00 I've watched Erika giradi on the real housewives and it must be sickening for the victims to see them living this lifestyle with there money. Tom spending millions trying to kick start his wife's music career and the rest. I think your right in what you say about them appearing on that show. It's very hard for the victims not to try and fight the system and a top lawyer when they are flaunting there wealth on a TV show and the victims are suffering and struggling to make end's meet. It might have been better if they kept a low profile. I don't know if that is a indication he kept things from her, otherwise she would have stayed low key, or they deluded themselves that everything was going to be alright.

@@mrmeerkat1096 I hear so much about people like this who run smaller towns. Random fixers who know the right people. It's either impossible or very hard to become rich without being dirty. So many people grease the wheels a bit. Few end up on a national TV show which is specifically about empty shallow people. I don't watch the Genre. Funnily enough because I'm busy watching historical documentaries on KZbin made by one person and a 1000 member patreon. I do see a lot of people here saying this is a California thing. Which I think is as nonsense as the old "all Florida politicians are crooks.". It's a bad leaders thing and it can be stopped. We can have capable, non corrupt leaders. It's just that laziness among the voting population and the media will lean towards this corrupt behaviour unless we make active descisions against it.

@mrmeerkat1096 3 жыл бұрын
@@letsburn00 I'd prefer to watch historical documentarys than this, I had to watch it with my girlfriend in lockdown LOL. Your right corruption is EVERYWHERE. From small towns to the biggest cities. Its remarkable what the rich get away with. I agree its not just a California thing, but it is taken to the extreme there. It seems to be more important there that you are seen eating in the right restaurants, your house is on the right street, you drive the right car, and seen with the right people etc. More than it is in small blue collar towns. There is a industry built round what these people say and do and as we have seen in this video the lengths they will go to aquire and maintain this lifestyle is disturbing. Which ever party you vote for it stays the same and it's very hard for a new party to break through into the mainstream in any meaningful way. These Jeffrey epstein type of people and others who have had a big fall from grace from being part of the elite. I think they have pissed off the power's that be, otherwise they wouldn't be in this position.
@letsburn00
@letsburn00 3 жыл бұрын
@@mrmeerkat1096 I think the shallow people doing shallow things is a fairly basic part of human existence. California I don't think necessarily creates shallow people who want to be famous so much as it attracts those people from elsewhere. Apart from maybe new York, every shallow person who wants to be a star goes to Hollywood. Everyone who wants to be a tech creator goes to the bay area. I think corruption isn't a particularly Cal thing, it's just left wing Texas in terms of that. The lack of political back and forth has led to the kingmaker developing, which happens behind closed doors instead of in voting. Australia has it right now, where the media is so friendly to one party that they don't need to care about actually doing well. As a side effect, they are awash in horrendous allegations right now about Rape, since the normal requirement to remove the trash doesn't happen until it gets this bad. The states like Louisiana and Mississippi have another flavour of it. The corruption with zero accountability. Texas, florida and Cal I feel are large enough and diverse enough to report of this stuff.

Weird personal story... he represented me a long time ago in a medical malpractice lawsuit( the Dr. misdiagnosed me which left me blind in one eye)! So now as I’m almost through your video and these revelations hit hard because of my outcome! While mine was a small case relative to the ones you’ve covered; it struck me as strange back then when nearly 4 years had passed and ( I’ll paraphrase because it’s been sooo long and it was confusing to me then and now it’s “blurry and confusing” ! ) but basically he said we almost won; if it had been six months later when it happened we definitely would have won bc it was clearly a misdiagnoses and treatment was given based on the wrong diagnosis which led to my protracted illness, search for the true diagnosis which was nearly impossible because of the medicine that “masked “ the real problem ( it’s such a long story), I saw Dr’s at Jules stein at UCLA, and USC all over Southern California and it took almost a Year to get it right bc the infection just blossomed from the initial wrong dx. and treatment,etc. But back to Tom, he was really so nice and caring and I trusted him implicitly. Again, I was very young,naive and vulnerable so I never thought to question him. He said something though that I could never intellectually reconcile or fully understand and it was along the lines of offering me a small settlement from a pending suit that had big damages awarded. It was so vague and confusing and knowing he had gone to bat for me ( he told me they really made the Drs. Life hell by deposing him and having small hearings at very in-opportune times so this Dr. would really understand the egregiousness of his bad medical practice and just how terrible the effects on me were! I had to stop College for two years which is about the length of time it took for me to get better! So, although I have mixed emotions regarding Tom, your video shed a lot of light on what he was trying to say to me ( in code as the saying now goes)! Also, because it was a contingency case as most PI and malpractice Suits are, I think he brought that up as well... that trying to secure a “win” It was unlikely this very arrogant and remorseless physician would capitulate in any way and would hold out come “hell or high-water”! Meaning it was no longer financially feasible for his firm. Wow! Didn’t expect to be so verbose in my comment but there you have it!

They should make these types of criminals stay in an open-air box-style cell that is in the middle of a town square so people can humiliate and throw garbage at them daily. Seems fair to me.

Well as per California Lawyers being corrupt as all get out...Go back and look at Theranos again. Bois (Theranos main lawyer when things started to get warm...so much so he sat on the board) came down hard to spook people who were trying to open up about the issue and tried to block the journalism that eventually did break the scandal open. He is still largely considered one of top if not the top lawyer in the state and is playing the same glad-handing game as Giradi. I mean you could have a successful and vibrant channel on this whole subject and won't run out of material anytime before you retire.

People like this disgust me. If one borrows $1m for a few years they can easily set themselves up for life off dividends, even after paying the initial investment off. The only reason people like Girardi don't is because they feel they're entitled to a more expensive life. It's especially fucked up when you consider the type of people he was stealing from and that he pretty much got away with it (if you don't get caught until your eighties, you got away with it).

I'm so glad you covered this. Erika was asked in the show if she knew, and she shook her head yes while saying no. Her body language outed her. The only question is when did she find out and how much did he tell her. She wants to get as much money out for herself as possible. And she really has nothing to gain by telling the truth at this moment.

WOW! I had no idea! Great reporting!!! As a long time fan of RHOBH I am shocked.Although I never cared for Erika's music and it seemed just plain stupid to need her glam squad I find this fascinating. Always seemed like her main glam squad gay man was getting paid to compliment her. Still I had respect for Tom & her for doing things their way and not conforming to what the world demanded. Now I know why....

The worst part of this story, is how much he was respected in the legal community. The reason he was so successful was because he fought and won so many class-action lawsuits against corporations that absolutely deserved to pay out huge amounts for what they did. It's not just a rich elite lawyer that did this, it's someone who was very respected in his profession for his morals and ethics. Seems you can't have faith in anyone or anything anymore. 😞

Corruption is endemic across the USA, from the White House on down, but unfortunately it seems that the cure will be worse for Joe Shmoe than the disease is now.

What's truly worrisome (to me, at least) is that I saw the beginnings of this kind of corruption in the leadership of the US Department of Defense just before I retired a decade ago. Generals and admirals are an extremely shady bunch, and even the ones that I thought were decent leaders would later prove my initial assessments wrong. As Georg hinted at, it's one thing for a high-profile class action lawyer to be a corrupt and morally bankrupt POS, but when judges, governors and other important leaders (like generals and admirals) start acting that way, that's when things get really nasty.....

It's always been like this for many centuries. The issue here is that these individuals make the legal system a joke and it wasn't even their intention to do so. Their actual intent was to make more money for THEMSELVES and only themselves. It's the collateral damage that hurts these systems and institutions that have good, honest actual human beings who work their arses off for the logically and ethically correct and sound reasons who get caught up in the crossfire.

Wow, this seems like quite a change for you. Maybe I haven't seen enough of your non-movie videos, but this one feels like you're truly angry at that Girardi guy. (Who certainly deserves it.) It's also an interesting documentary that must have required quite a bit of research. Very well done, Mr. Rockall-Schmidt. Girardi's decades long con reminds me of Bernie Madoff more than anything, because it sounds like both of them were doing the pyramid scheme thing of taking new revenue and giving it to older clients. Except Girardi's clients weren't trying to make money, they were trying to get justice for the wrongs done to them. And while it took a world financial crash to expose Madoff, it seems like Girardi was exposed because he just got too greedy and took too much for himself. But both of them were very good at cloaking themselves in respectability.

A scene where he is friends with the head of the LAPD. Yeah, looks like not dodgy at all. One thing I will say is not corrupt is the governor revealing who advised him. That is in fact less corrupt than usual, which is that it's hidden.
