I am so pleased that when the family planned Pres Ford's memorial they included all the beauty, reverance, and solemnity of their beloved Episcopal church. Particularly within the magnificent building that is the National Cathedral and closing with this beautiful & moving hymn with ALL of the people signing together in unison.

I remember watching the funeral, but had forgotten that this was the final hymn. It's one of my favorites, and how wonderful to stumble upon it on KZbin. God bless Gerald Ford, Barack Obama, and the United States of America!

I cried during "For All The Saints" when I saw the Fords clinging to each other for solace. That is the first time that I cried at a funeral. I am an Episcopalian and I felt akin to the Fords and all my brothers and sisters in the National Cathedral that day. That was Bruce Neswick on the organ.

Nothing better than a completely full Cathedral singing "For All the Saints" with a huge choir to lead them!! The Trompette En Chamade caught the attention of one of President Ford's sons on that one stanza. LOVED it!

You are spot on, friend. The so-called ‘contemporary worship’ has some of the most tuneless and asynchronous words ever. reading from the Word is not a compromise, but the millennials’ preference of the impersonal phone it in sermon I don’t get.

This melody FOR ALL THE SAINTS is by the English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams. It was just performed at Busch 41 funeral too.

When I became a chorister in a famous NYC Episcopal church boys choir 41 years ago, this was the first hymn I sang with the choir. It's been my all time favorite, Erik Wm. Suter organist at Pres. Ford's funeral, gave it justice against that huge choir.

It occurs to me how sad it is that the national church building of our nation is so rarely seen on TV. It is a testament to fine craftsmanship and architecture. There are so many videos out of England showing Westminster Abbey. Surely Americans now have a building where our religous celebrations can be held in dignity and telecast to everyone. I say we need to showcase this building as often as possible not just when a President dies.

Soon, All Saints will roll around again (celebrated this year on Sunday November 4 unless you are in a church which has a service on November 1) and in almost every Anglican or Episcopal Church we will sing it - some of us with wonderful organs well played and some with lesser expertise. But William Walsham How's words and Vaughn Williams soaring melody in G major will inspire once again so that " hearts are brave and arms are strong". May this wonderful tradition never die.

Hail to the victors, valiant hail to the conquring heroes Hail, Hail to Michigan the champions of the west. I'm sure Gerald himself would of loved to hear it at his service. Once a Wolverine always a Wolverine. Rest in peace Mr President.

Erik Wm. Suter on last stanza used full organ including the 64' Bombarde in the pedal, Trompette En Chamade in an earlier stanza, WOW!! what a fitting way to end a stately funeral at the National Cathedral. Ernest M. Skinner (he built that organ)would have been proud!

Agreed. Also, how the camera pans to the "Christ the King" rose window immediately after that touching moment. I also like when the camera (at 5:00) pays homage to his longtime home state by panning up to the Michigan flag.

The accidental President but who did a good job to heal this Country after Watergate and Vietnam. I remember the Press savaged him for being a Klutz but he was anything but a Klutz, he was a Collegiate All Star in Football and an Eagle Scout. He just wasn't a good golfer. Our Country was lucky he was available to pick up the pieces after Rockefeller and Nixon. He did an able job!

Actually, it's an old E.M. Skinner. AEolian-Skinner added ranks in the 1960's and 1970's if I'm not mistaken (I don't have the history of this organ in front of me as I'm not home). My all time favourite hymn. BDM

@SIKE01 As for JFK, I believe Oswald acted alone. At the time (September 1974), I was very much opposed to the pardon of Richard Nixon. Surely there was some "understanding" between Nixon and Ford, particularly since the pardon came exactly one month after Nixon announced he would resign. You are correct about Sipple, the ex-Marine who was gay. Viewed with the benefit of nearly 40 years of hindsight, though, Ford made an important contribution to the Nation which cannot be denied.

Stirring and triumphant hymn, but I was moved most by the scene at 3:05 of Mrs. Ford and her sons huddled to share the program. From what I've heard (I was born and brought up in DC), the Fords were the "most real" and "most fun" family to have inhabited the White House--in our time, anyway. I wasn't around when Andrew Jackson was in office...

@mindspring57 GERALD FORD role on the WARREN COMMISSION was to keep tabs on the other committee members for the FBI. He gave RICHARD NIXON a free pass...without him admitting his GUILT or APOLOGIZING to the AMERICAN people for his crime...and finally, FORD was nearly assassinated (twice) the second time he was saved by an innocent bystander. He didnt have the decency or class to invite the guy to the White House to give him a medal. or years later attend the man's funeral....cause he was gay!
