Self-defence doesn't work that way. She had to prove beyond reasonable doubt that she was faced with a deadly threat. Someone beating you with a belt is not a deadly threat. She also had to prove that she was cornered with nowhere to run. In her instance it appears she stood up to her husband and was willing to fight with him. So her case does not hold water. She committed manslaughter and she's rightly guilty of it. What she ought to do was to plead guilty then plead with the court in her mitigation, using the guilty plea as her first mitigating factor because she would not have wasted the court's time... perhaps that would assist her to get a lenient sentence. I'm not a lawyer or anything, but just a person gifted in advocating for myself.

There are some grey areas in her story. It seems her relationship with the deceased was a tumultuous one. So much so that her now-late husband so a need to bring over his friends to witness her behavior. I would not rule it past her that she was aggressive toward her now dead husband. She even laughs that her parents were chased from the late's funeral. I find that to be strange, that she finds it funny given that she murdered the very one whose funeral her parents were disgracefully chased from. There is something dark and lingering about her... She needs to truly find Jesus...

@Rusitu @Rusuti I agree with you and also the late is not there to defend himself or give us his version of events but what is apparent is that there are so many missing holes her story and another point I can see is that when the late hubby brought his friends to witness him assaulting her,I suspect that the friends could have told the hubby that she was being promiscuous and hubby wanted to prove to his buddies that he has dealt with her accordingly thus calling her derogatory terms and I don't think there was any love in that relationship coz she also mentioned that the husband's relatives didn't know about her and the fact she seemed to be unremorseful after taking someone's life coz she laughed that her parents were chased away when they tried to go and deliver their condolences and that was not funny but I do feel that she should have been charged with manslaughter rather than murder as I don't think it was a premeditated case but her self defence, defence does not hold water.
