Well now I know about the Saramonic system, but most importantly, what gamma radiation is
@MaxRovensky4 жыл бұрын
Nobody: Gerald Undone: Gamma radiation is a penetrating electromagnetic radiation arising from the radioactive decay of atomic nuclei. It consists of the shortest wavelength electromagnetic waves and so imparts the highest photon energy.

Here's the feedback from 3 years of use by university students on assignments, doing a weekly TV show and conferences: - You get random cuts on the transmission. It's not clear when and why this happens, but all of them happened when the receiver was close to the transmitter (5 meters away or so). When this happened on conferences, connected to a PA a loud bang could be heard on the speakers and scared the crap out of some people in the room. Not reliable at all for critical work. - 2 units broke down so far. One was covered by warranty and we were sent a new one. The other, I'm still trying to find someone that repairs it or sell me the parts that broke down (tech support is not good) - Sound quality is decent, but when mixing them with Sennheisers you can really tell the difference. Bottom line: It's great for the money but you might want to skip it if you're recording something that you can't do a 2nd take in case it fails. So, for schools assignments, short films and alike is ok, but for most interviews and live audio it's not good enough.

great that you finally test the UwMic9! I use them with a NTG3 (with phantom power XLR transmitter) and also upgraded to a Sanken COS lav.... both into the stereo jacks of my bmpcc4k. also worth noting is the fact, that the battery drains even when switched off... I always remove the trays after use. strange to hear such huge differences bewteen your cabled vs. wireless test of your mic... I didnt have such major differences in my tests... what really bugs me is the volume adjustment... it's hard to get it right to avoid clipping. but for the price, it's a great & small dual-channel system for interviews... love it!

Gerald, great video. Important thing you NEED to mention a common battery issue. Myself and other users have reported this: The batteries can become loose within the tray due to inside the lav tx and rx units there is extra space above the batteries. When they become loose, they prevent the battery sled from being removed, and also create intermittent audio problems. My solution to this was to use gaffer tape in the 'roof' of the tx and rx door sled areas. This creates a snug fit and the batteries won't pop out while inside the units. Another problem I have found is that the included lav mics wires are easily damaged. I had a client playing with the wire while talking (didn't notice) and now that lav doesn't work right. There is also no gain adjustment at the tx level, only rx level. not a huge issue, but can create unavoidable clipping in some extreme situations. I have been using these units for 1.5years now. :) Edit: almost forgot another issue: apparently many third party lavs do not work with this system. I haven't tried this yet. But the Rode link lav is reported to not work. Finally just some fun info: I have EBL rechargeable batteries and on the tx i get 7-8hrs and on the rx i get 3.5-4hrs.

I have these myself, and while I have read about some of the issues, I have not really come across it myself, except on when the camera and receiver were right next to a WiFi transmitter in a house, and I had a tiny bit of hum in the background, but I was able to clean it up in post and still made the audio usable. I do tend to carry my Røde Wireless Go for the compactness of it all, but keep the Saramonic for when I need to have two people in the video
@birchwoodcrafts12924 жыл бұрын
Gerald, another good review.... But can you help, I bought the Saramonic UwMic9 RX9 with 2 TX9 system a few months ago and am very happy with it but I’m looking to upgrade the Lavaliers. There is a huge gap for a video in this market that is just not cover. Providing Lavalier tests with other systems. Eg Dpa etc My theory is that the transmitter/ receiver is 50% of a wireless package and the other 50% is down to the lavalier. I did a lot of research and the system seem to do a very good job at it’s part but maybe let down with the Lavalier a bit, so I’m currently trying to re terminate a Dpa 4061 Lavalier microphone to hopefully make the system top notch. I’ve seen or heard many reviews when upgrading the lav on other systems the improvement is big sounding more like a shotgun mic which is what we are all aiming for or at least getting closer without huge post production. My specific problem is again a lack of information that again you could cover. I’m simply trying to re terminate the dpa to a 3.5mm TRS screw jack to fit the saramonic UwMic9 TX9 transmitter. As I don’t have any other Lavaliers to test with I can’t find which other Lavaliers eg (sennheiser, Sony etc ) work with the system do I can copy or adapt wiring. I’m sure the difference with an upgraded Lavalier will produce night and day difference. Again what a good video for you to make, if only anything it will help me out a lot. Cheers Andrew

I have the system and have tried a few different lavs with no success it feels like the 3.5mm jack is proprietary and small! not sure if that's the case but I want to fin d this out too.

I am looking to upgrade the lavaliers too, I was able to try on one occasion with a senheiser ME 2 capsule and I can assure that they do not work, someone here said that the Sanken COS works, It may sounds incredible, but one capsule costs more than the entire Saramonic system

I am sure this has been said somewhere below but I think these were based on the Sony ones? I have a Sony set and parts of the case are exactly the same especially those funny battery trays. What's good about this system is they work with Countryman lavs with a 3pin Lemo to 1/8 mini jack converter, sound fine, you need to up the gain 30 on the pack, as the low sensitivity of the Countryman is much lower. I'm not sure about other models like COS 11 D's

Interesting test Gerald thank you, I never ask nor look for a definitive answer from watching anyone’s tests, however in this case I feel I must. I am in the market for such a kit and up until now it has been the Deity connect, however at half the price this is tempting me, seems drop out when talent is turned away from the camera is not an issue with this set up because of it being UH frequency driven, whereas the Deity could possibly drop out like the Rode wireless go which is my current set up. Would appreciate your input.

Nice review. You definitely covered details I haven't heard any other reviewer covering, especially the difference between frequencies in the range test. Surprised that a wireless system would reduce bass frequencies as much as your demonstration shows. I would think the high end would get cut before the low end.

For me, the battery latch is a bit sticky on one and the battery tends to get dislodged when it's in the TX / RX making the whole battery tray stuck in the device. I need to slot in a thin card to push the battery back in in order to remove the tray out. And I use it with the IKEA LADDA 2450mAh batteries which are really envelop pros for a lot less money.

The dual reciver having only one 3.5mm jack that outputs the signals in stereo is not a feature, it's a compromise. It should have two jacks with balanced output. Not one stereo jack that needs to be jankily split to two unbalanced XLRs.

I own this set for over a year now (lav kit). It seems that the auto scan for selecting the channel does nothing actually. It just selects the very channel that the unit is already using. Just like in the video at 04:44 when it selects channel 01. Does anyone else have the issue? Otherwise the unit is good value for money, the audio is quite good when connected to my Gh4, but with a significant background static when connected to an old EX1R via a mono XLR cable, and way more noise when connected with a genuine saramonic 3.5 to double XLR (for stereo). Does anyone else have these issues?

Be aware! In europe the only free available frequencies are VHF (~200-300Mhz), 823-832Mhz(LTE Duplex), 863-865Mhz (European free range), 1.8Ghz and 2.4Ghz(Wifi). Everything from 400-700Mhz needs a speciale license to be operated. So if you use 500Mhz without a license you could get in trouble.

Saramonic vs Comica? Or are they the same thing? Honestly I think these are cheaper Sony systems. While I'm sure the fit and finish of the Sony's are better, they probably realized how cheap they are to make, so make a couple of cuts and put on another name, and make more money. But that's my speculation.

Oh. Just checking legality/licencing in Europe... 500MHz looks like it could be problematic....this is in TV frequency ranges, and a quick check said this :Short Term PMSE License Required - Date & Venue Specific" so if you are going to use this in Europe, would be an idea to thouroughly chek your regulations as to whether these require a licence.
