For the last oddity: wouldn't that be a good feature? If you went to adjust something quickly and only needed legs to extend but not retract, this seems like it would make it super fast to adjust--you wouldn't even need to use the clutch. Maybe I am missing something though...

It’s better than the R1! It’s better than the R3, because with a 45 megapixel sensor you can always crop it in the camera or after you’ve taken the photograph and post processing. If you do that with the other two cameras I mentioned you’re not going to have good resolution. So this is the very best digital camera canon has yet produced.

No, I think you missed it. The fact that you can adjust the subject distance and the f# to achieve the same scene and DOF does not mean that DOF is not a function of focal length. Look at the math. The DOF simulator clearly shows that DOF is a function of focal length. Show me the math that shows that DOF is not a function of focal length.

Shooting 1250 ISO in daylight - got it. What about low light environment? Is lowering ISO not ideal if there is enough lights? or bringing it even higher is better?

Thank you Gerald for another great review. I just bought a Z6 III to be paired with the Z6 II I've been using in a cinema type rig configuration for several years now. To my dismay, I'm finding Nikon has made it nearly impossible to use this camera with external batteries. SmallRig NPF plates worked fine to feed power via a dummy battery to my Z6 II, but the same configuration is flatly rejected by the Z6 III, which turns on only to display an "insufficient battery data" message and then turns off. I would be willing to invest in a V-mount type battery system that I can feed into the Z6 III via dummy-battery (since I need the camera's single USB-C port to connect Nikon's own MC-N10 remote grip) but I haven't found any options yet that are confirmed to be compatible. Perhaps you have some tips you can share regarding this scenario? Thanks in advance!

Hey Gerald! Hopefully you see this since this vid is 4 years old. Having issues with Shinobi ever since I moved to Canon. Rec709 shows colors more warmer and colors more saturated than when I used the same conversion lut in post. Can’t seem to trust it. Reached out to Shinobi and they said “We would like to inform you that some cameras output gamma and gamut within the legal range through the HDMI port instead of full range” Disappointed to hear that this is the case for such a big camera brand. Does SmallHD have this issue?

I just wish they release a new GX10 or GX9 mkII with similar autofocus and stabilization. I would go all in.

I’m heavily invested in Sony and it feels like golden handcuffs. I am blessed to have the fx3 which has been the golden child of Sony support. I love the features but I ended up getting the sigma 28-45 1.8 and notice they obviously nerf the autofocus, but it was refreshing getting such a stunning lens for a ~steal~($1300.. easily 1700-2100 from Sony). I have been looking at Fuji and Panasonic and I feel way more drawn to their color science. With every quality of life feature at the cost of a kidney… I simply find image and video uninspiring compared to the color science of these other brands at a fraction of the price. It feels like where we are with Apple - the innovation is there because the talent a company like that can attract is undeniable but everything feels so uninspired focused on shareholder value. Rant over.

The camera actually change the tinting if you use a grey card. I guess I need to learn how tint works with white balance.

ahahah I don't think is perfect .. as a video shooter, the lack of an 8k 60p and raw options is super minor.. R5 cost less and offers more.. and the upgrade from A1? is nonsensical .. A1II won't be a greta seller.. maybe for few months of Hype.. it will sell some.. but is not compelling at all.. if in the camera Sony implemented also 6k 60p oversampled then maybe I would have give a thumbs up.. and no restrictions to the video .. but this is just for photographers.. and Z9 or Z8 or Z6III or R5 II or eventually a R6III or a S1hII..
