That is one selectively deaf golem. Geralt openly stated he wanted to mess with the it, which qualifies him to be an intruder, yet it did nothing, even though he could plainly hear him.
@aguyontheinternet90955 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. The golem states that only those who try to pass without the master's permission would be considered an intruder, and the act of asking is not the same as doing. The golem wits were, arguably, too sharp so there was nothing that should have been able balance on the edge. Also it would be unfortunate for ol dearhenna if he made asking about his notes a tag for intruder as if he himself asked for the notes it would either cause the golem to attack or fall apart at the paradox of the master being tagged as an intruder. TLDR it would be rude for the golem to fistmurder a guest simply for asking what they can and cannot do, and the golem's master had polite, if stern, intentions when making this golem.

Geralt messed with him in an “unmessed” way. By simply asking if the golem will allow him to try to mess or not. A big hole in the golem’s creation that he only judge by actions and approaches but not with intentions, thus making him a pure little kid maybe.

There is a resolution to the conflict, Guests would know the Name-Word as stated by the golem, therefore it goes without saying a Guest would only need state the name-word a guest can also be warned if they are behaving like an intruder.
@TESkyrimizer4 жыл бұрын
But what if an illusionist clouds the Golem's senses and tricks it into thinking the name word was spoken when it wasn't? Or vice versa? May result in the killing of guests and the invitation of intruders. Eg. Im a guest, I say the name word. An illusionist adds a phonetic spell to distort my words and makes it incorrect. Golem kills a guest.

@GrimgoreIronhide5 жыл бұрын
Exactly. From a purely logical standpoint, probability does not matter, since anything technically possible must be factored. A thinking being, no matter how intelligent must either eventually take some things on faith, or retreat into Solipsism, like the flat earthers.
@scutumfidelis14365 жыл бұрын
@@GrimgoreIronhide This sounds like a good argument against atheism.
@GrimgoreIronhide5 жыл бұрын
@@scutumfidelis1436 While there are good arguments against atheism that might spring from this, this by itself is not one of them. I didn't mean faith in the sense of religious faith. I'm referring to faith in the sense of epistomology. Aka, I have faith that the chair I sit in every day has not been replaced with a very carefully concealed death trap. I have faith that everyone around me isn't part of a massive conspiracy to make me believe the earth is round. The Golem on the other hand must weigh that possibility, and every other potential possibility, every time he does anything. Because these things are technically possible, to the golem they all have to be seriously considered. Hence when Geralt raises the issue "Well what if an Illusionist is warping your senses" The golem can't just just shrug it's shoulders and reply "Possibly, but I'm willing to bet not."
@scutumfidelis14365 жыл бұрын
@@GrimgoreIronhide Right but that just makes it sound against atheism even more. An atheist always is the first to champion logical thought and empiricism yet their human condition binds them to take matters on faith. They believe reality is observable, they believe what Labcoats tell them, they believe their spouses love them, they believe in acting like a decent human being (I hope). They don't have any science to back this up or test the theorems.
@GrimgoreIronhide5 жыл бұрын
@@scutumfidelis1436 In this case the atheist would not claim that they can scientifically prove God does not exist, that hasn't been one of their main arguments for a long time, though it once was. Currently they focus more on reversing the burden of proof in arguments against the religious, claiming that it is not up to them to prove the non existence of God, but that it is up to the religious to prove he does. This is flawed, because the religious are not proposing God as a scientific principle in the first place, so the two factions remain at an impasse. I have to say though, that I'm not particularly interested in discussing this here and now. I'm referring to Solipsism, and Atheists are not solopsists by and large.

Honestly, I think this one was kind of a stretch. The Golem didn't need to "assume" anything - as long as Geralt kept his distance, he was a guest. Should he approach or attempt to interfere with the Golem, he would become an intruder. Simple as that. So, the Golem's "iron logic" was pretty much just boasting.
