This is gold! Fascinating! Word for word. The Giller continues to score.

This is awesome! Thanks Don! All of us Letterman-addicts are well versed in anything that happened on the show...but stuff like this (local NY television only) is pure gold!

I still remember how excited I was to get this book for Christmas that year.

Thank you, Don! I always want to see segments like this one. The Late Night of the late 1980s is special to me. I enjoyed the occasional crossovers between Late Night and Live at Five. I was in college at the time (starting my fifth and final year in October 1990), but I wanted to live in NYC and be a part of this scene at 30 Rock, somehow. I would have been happy to be in the Live at Five studio to provide the drum roll for the Live at Five Top Ten list.

Thanks, Don. I still have that book in my collection. Humor as dry as the desert.

That Top Ten was funnier than a lot of the real ones :)

I was gonna say, that’s a really strong Top Ten list

I always thought the main inspiration for the top ten list was "The Book of Lists." Also, I feel like Steve O'Donnell could do a great impression of Dana Carvey doing Johnny Carson.

Cant find a link to send you a message - - I guess it was either late 80s or early 90s. There were a bit where Letterman was walking house to house interviewing folks. One of them was a little boy that made a weird coughing sound with this throat (obviously, but you hat to hear it). Letterman made his usual weird expressions, then he walked off. Later Letterman was walking and he could still hear the kid making the coughing sounds, and he turned around.. sure enough there was the little boy making coughing or throat breath sounds. It might also have been to the beat of a song. This was either an anniversary special, or a random man on the street interview. Can anybody remember this? I've asked some die hard fans who can't seem to recall. I've also combed through many Anniversaries on KZbin. I know it was a bit, and I know it was Letterman.

I've got to assume that if Don Giller hasn't recognized this bit, it's because it didn't happen.
