They are very similar I wish the dividend had bearings rather then a spring! After using a couple of kershaw knives with KVT I think that is the way to go. Like you said, Much more satisfying then a spring.

I just bought the composite (CPM-D2/N690) blade version of the Dividend (OLCB) and like it a lot. I also have a Kershaw Natrix-XS with KVT ceramic bearings and G10 handles which I like, BUT the detent and frame lock are very stiff. So, that makes me leery of buying another bearing/detent knife. The Speedsafe action does not require any fine tuning to work consistently.
@skylerbond562 жыл бұрын
You're comparing a sub frame lock detent to a liner lock though.
@BryanTorok2 жыл бұрын
@@skylerbond56 The point I was trying to make was a comparison between the Kershaw Speed Safe (spring assisted) flipper knife and a non-assisted flipper knife which has a detent to hold the blade closed. The non-assisted knife uses a detent to allow one to build up pressure on the flipper tab before it releases and lets the blade open quickly. The problem with latter system is that there is small window where the detent holds firmly enough to be effective, but not so firmly as to be difficult to open. The second problem with that system is that as the knife is used, the detent can wear and become looser or tighter to open.

Kershaw Dividend because you get more for $76.00 versus $104.00 for the Gerber Fastball

VQMAN easy buddy. Most places have the fastball at 100$ flat. No need to over extend the price for bias just cause knife centers prices are bad
@rhawkins04175 жыл бұрын
Amazon sells the black for $104.98 and Gerber sells the black for $105 on their website. Seems like VQMAN may know where you can get a deal on one for $104.
@hunterglaspell55805 жыл бұрын
rhawkins0417 that’s a bit unfair man lol. Bladehq sells all but the black one for 100, same as amazon. The black seems to be the least popular anyway. 5$ additive is probably due to black oxide blade. That’s like me going to cabelas and saying the prices of a knife there at terrible (represented the knife itself) and then going to a website that sells another knife cheaper than cabellas and saying that’s fair. 2/3 of the fastball variants are 99$ flat. Your point is broken like the thin tip of the dividend after you use it for real work.

Although Kershaw has the better steel (SV30 is still pretty good). Gerber being a manual flipper means less parts that can fail and easier to take apart and clean. Plus, got to order mine custom with a red handle and black anodized steel blade from Gerber directly.

I ordered two green handled one flip that are not at all what I was hoping to get for a Gerber flip knife as they don't do as advertised so I reached out to Gerber and they are sending us 2 Fastball's one in green and one all in black the better half has spoken saying the green is hers when it arrives as I hoped she would ha ha.
@davidsweet60072 жыл бұрын
I think the Gerber Fastball might be a better choice being that I was an owner of the Kershaw M390 Dividend Owner until it got taken away by a dumb security guard at a Hollywood Night Club and am having some difficulty getting it back. Anyways, back to the subject of the main reason why Gerber might be the better knife. Yes the Dividend might be a little better at slicing, edge retention and open a bit faster. The Gerber with ball bearing pivot might be the way to go. I say this only because the spring on my Dividend snapped and trying to get a replacement spring from the Kershaw was a nightmare. Never getting replaced when it got taken away. Without the spring, the knife would open in my pocket and the joy that once had as a EDC pocket knife was lost. It became on more thing to worry about whenever I carried it in my pocket, to a point where every time I reached into my pocket. I worried about slicing a finger or cutting my hand. Which shouldn't be something a person should be worried about with their EDC pocket knife. Owning a knife with the m390 blade quality, a person shouldn't have to deal with this type of concern that could easily have been avoided if the broken spring could've been easily replaced. But since i wasn't able to find a way to get the replacement spring. The high value I once had for the Dividend dropped a bit from 4.75 stars out 5, Due to the lack of customer service by Kershaw, it drops to 3.25 stars out of 5.

The Gerber is not what you're representing.. The Gerber closing detent is to short which leaves the blade pointing upwards towards the 11 o'clock position - The opening detent is also way to hard / heavy, which many have already reported. Takes so much pressure that your finger will hurt after just a few uses. I So hoped since it's a USA Made Knife the overall operation / workmanship would be much better.. I sent mine back.

Fastball cause it’s a manual. Which is where all the other manufacturing price hike goes on the Gerber. Takes more money to tune a detent like the Gerber. As well as ball bearings. If Kershaw would get rid of the stupid gas station speedsafe maybe if chose it. But the fastball has my vote.
