Hey, Jerry! Can I add one more rule: Never forget to put your blade in your checked luggage for air travel. (That's been a tough lesson for me over the years. Too many good knives lost but it is always entertaining to see the look on TSA's face when I hand it to them instead of trying to sneak it past them. One time at a small airport, I was even able to get my airline's agent to hold it for me until I returned on my round trip travels. There are good people out there!)

I have about 10 of those knives sitting on a shelf in the original package from the 90's, I got them from my grandfather who worked for SC Johnson. I can honestly say that they may not be the fanciest knife but they are durable and come with a good edge. I'm glad to know that someone shares the same interest.

That Gerber is a sweet little blade. I have one I've carried, off and on, for probably 25 years or so. And very wise words about how to keep your knife. I've only lost one blade and that one fell through a hole in my pocket. I felt bad because it had been a graduation gift from my folks. The neat thing was, I found it, several weeks later, laying right on the ground out in the yard. I took it as a sign and have not carried it since, just kept it in my "collection." Keep up the great videos, Jerry.

This is the same knife I carried all through high school up until I joined the marines. It served me well for every day tasks from cutting athletic tape off of pole-vaulting poles, to cleaning mud out of my football cleats. I now need to do through some of my old things and see if this little guy is still floating around somewhere. Thanks for the share and for bringing back some good memories

I have always had a pocket knife since I was about 9 years old. My dad gave me a Case pocket knife. We even took our knives to school back then. If you did not have your knife with you, you felt naked. I won a very nice knife once. I gave it to the young man that has been learning to shoot and hunt with me. He now carries it with him everywhere. From teaching this one young man to hunt, fish and shoot, I now have 4 people in the last 6 months that have started shooting with us and have fallen in love with guns and shooting. They have all bought guns and plan on going hunting with us this year. Pass on your knowledge and shooting passion to others. Believe me, there are people out there just waiting to learn. They just need someone to take the time to teach them. This has been very rewarding to me and I have made some lasting friends and shooting partners. When I take them to the range, they are like kids in a candy store, they start talking to everyone about the guns they are shooting. They have been able to experience shooting many types of guns by just meeting and talking to fellow shooters at the range. I just sit back and watch them enjoy themselves. Thank you for your videos. I have told them about your shooting skills and shown them your videos and their jaws just hit the floor. They now have a new role model. Thank you so much for passing your knowledge and passion on to all of us.

In the 90's I was issued a Gerber Gator and it survived heavy use, many relocation's and sharpening 'till it looked nothing like the original. Glad to see someone else getting that kind service out of their knife!

Jerry, my first knife came at 5 years old. It was a "Lewis" cutlery product. My dad, Last name "Lewis", made it from an old hacksaw blade and the tongue out of his boot. It had a rounded point and dull on all edges with a handle made by stacking squares of leather cut from his boot then ground into a handle. I still have it and wouldn't trade it for the most expensive knife made. Like you I have had a knife in my pocket ever since.---- Like most boys my age I learned how to handle a knife by cutting myself several times, no emergency room visits and very little sympathy. Have we lost something along the way ?????

I carried a tiny Buck pocket knife in the same class as the Gerber LST. Very handy size. I once paid as much as the knife was worth to have the TSA goons mail my knife back to me when I forgot it was in my pocket, in much the same way that I forget my appendix is in the right side of my abdominal cavity. I finally got so sick of the TSA that I quit flying commercially. Until I can fly without be harassed, X-rayed and sexually assaulted, I'll either drive, or I'm not going. Great advice on how to keep a pocket knife. I had a lovely little Schrade that I took out to work on a lawn mower when I was a kid. On the next pass, Schrade bits went flying out the chute with the grass clippings. Oh, the humanity! I carry a SOG Aegis now. It gets hard use, regular quick & dirty sharpening, and it's large enough to be of practical defensive use if needed.

My Dad carried the same Gerber for years and years. He lost it somehow. I got him a new pocket-cliped, liner-locked, easy open Gerber as a replacement. Nope. Too big for him. He really liked that thin/light LST. Now that I think about it, he probably liked that knife more than his Loveless.

46 years ago while working at a gunshot, a city cop came into the store and wanted to buy a descent pocket knife. He'd attended a motor vehicle collision the day before, the seatbelt was jammed (yeah they had them in 1969) and didn't have anything to cut the belt. I bought my first folding knife then and have had several since. Thankfully, I never had to experience what the city cop did, though I spent over 30 years as a front line cop myself. You never know when you may need a good knife...

Good choice, I just got the little ultralight L.S.T today. I like it better than my Buck 283 nano bantam and find it to look a bit better than my Buck 425 which has too much going on with all the holes in the handle and stuff. My current knife of the month is a BSA edition Case 6208 splitback half whittler in red jigged bone, I prefer carbon steel when I can get it but it's just such a slicer of a little knife that I love it regardless.
