I love... my MP600. One thing to be aware of is there are multiple MP600 versions. I have a MP600 Pro Scout that I removed the knife from myself and replaced with a split washer and my newest one is the MP600 Bladeless which essentially the same tool but drops the knife and gives me an extra flat head screwdriver. Mine both have the jigsaw bit adapter which comes with a tungsten carbide jigsaw blade installed. The MP600 line has several versions, I think the US military are issued an MP600 ST. The MP600 is truly the AK47 of the multitool world, you can drag them to hell and back and they work well and are easy to maintain.

I know, The MP600 beats Leathermans toughest tool ANY DAY!!! I won't use Leatherman anymore, they're too gimmicky, uses soft steel and I nearly broke my Super Tool 300 trying to fix a simple mountain bike, the handles started to flex and bend, ended up stripping a Flathead on a stubborn screw, then I said 'forget it!!' used my MP600, fixed it, and moved on to fix other things. I still carry my MP600 as my EDC and I'm looking to buy another, probably the bladeless or the Diesel. I have the NXT but I love the MP600 series.

@@ricev7071 Thanks for the heads up guys. I want to invest in a good durable multitool but I don't want to spend the earth. I'm tired of LM fanboys on various comment sections claiming anyone who doesn't buy a LM is a cheapskate, ffs they have a lot of medium priced models like the Wingman, Sidekick etc. but these just don't appeal to me. Their higher end products however are ridiculously expensive for what they are and I could get a far better (imo) Victorinox Swisstool for that kind of money. Their smaller products like the Squirt are too dinky to be of much use except as a novelty keychain EDC only suited to very light and small tasks. Finally most of their products aren't legal for EDC here in the UK (locking blades) whereas this Gerber is available in a bladeless version. The proof of the pudding is that it's the preferred multitool of the US military. I may well buy a bladed version despite it being illegal to carry here, as I'd have it in a bag rather than on a belt, as a bike repair tool, or I'd take it when bushcrafting when I carry fixed bladed knives which too are technically illegal, but the law only says both types (locking or fixed blades) are illegal to carry ''without good reason'' and in the unlikely event of me getting searched, the law enforcement officer in question is permitted to use his discretion.

Neither have scissors, which may deter some users/buyers. I have the black needle nose Gerber MP600 & a Leatherman Rebar in Coyote brown ceracoat. I obtained a Clip&carry sheath for each. I prefer using the Gerber more often, just to keep the Rebar more pristine and prevent it from lose. Thank you for the comparison video.

Ι still have my 1994 Gerber full functional. Ιn the next years i have try SOG Powerlock, Leatherman Charge and more Gerbers...You know, i bought couple of months ago a brand new Gerber MP600 Military Issue (black) before they 'll disappear of the market. Αs they said, the most robust multitool ever.

Folks often assume the looseness of the mp is due to poor quality but they couldn't be more wrong. It's a feature, not an issue.

the Gerber "lanyard" tool isn't for lanyards...It is to pull twine and wire taught so you don't cut your hands up
@ricev7071
@ricev7071 6 жыл бұрын
That's right!!! Because if you use it for lanyard, it gets in the way and can't access the Phillips tool properly.

I prefer the MP600 all the way!!! I have seen it get dropped, thrown, smashed with a rock, run over by a truck, and the damn thing is still fully functional. There is good reason why the U.S. & Canadian military use the MP600 and not the Leatherman. Also if you have a bit adapter to throw on the 3d Phillips, then you can take apart and fix anything with the MP600!!! I won't use Leatherman anymore, the steel is too soft and I nearly broke my ST300 trying to fix a mountain bike, so there's that. The only thing good on the Leatherman are the knives, that's it!!!

You can get bit set for mp. I think the rebar weighs less. Are the carbide cutters worth it?

Leatherman rebar for me it’s almost weightless and surprisingly strong for its size... I just don’t trust Gerber’s trash.

Same for me, I used leatherman multi tools and gerber knives, and gerber knives always felt cheap for the price they were selling. Never bought one full price. I had a Rebar and still have a old juice S4 with a broken spring. But I used it for 10 years before it broke. The Rebar was lost on my workplace and never found again :(.

Yeah, gerber tends to be little hit or miss tool, I've had one failing on me on a very simple job. Damn thing just broke in my hand..lmao Leatherman any day, if you don't care about pliers and are looking for little stylish thing then probably victorinox.

The cheaper Gerbers like Dime, Vise and so on are made in China. Larger more expensive Gerbers like the MP600 are made in the USA. Furthermore the MP600 is the preferred multitool of the US army.

I've owned my mp600 for over 20 years and never had a problem, I've owned the Rebar for about a week and it's already getting loose and a little warped.

My Gerber broke at the pliers, snapped at the jaw. The Gerber causes pinched palms. This Leatherman Rebar is too small. Don't like how it folds open and the handles are too wide apart. To each his own.

As a person who owned the Gerber first then got the rebar ,the Gerber seriously sucked in my opinion ,I used to pinch and cut my hand when using the pliers on smaller items because it closes small AF ,plus I always would go to whip out my tools to go fix something then be instantly discouraged that it couldn't even reach the F*ing screw, after a year of use the rebar has Rarely let me down as much as the chinsy Gerber that I gave away. :( .the Rebar is parsecs better!.

You, take that back sir! The reason Gerber pliers are better, from my point of view, is that the pliers are a whole lot harder to break because of the design. With the leatherman one, where you grip the pliers closed and the handles are still apart, you can over-grip if you have a strong grip and smash the multitool. An old friend of mine broke at least 2 leathermans in his time and swore never to have another one. He put me onto Gerber and I would never look back. I never had a full size leatherman tool but I did have a similar functioning tool and having seen how they work I would never buy a full size leatherman tool. The Micra is about as far as I would go with Leatherman.

@@techwg gerber pliers break all the time, I have had one case where it just broke in my hands while cutting wire.
@techwg
@techwg 5 жыл бұрын
@@gambet0007 This usually happens when you cut something too thick. Any pliers can fail if you do that. It is less of an issue with the replaceable ones because you can replace the cutters on the MP600 Bladeless and similar models. My old one cannot be changed though.

Why compare 2 different size MT? It should of been the leatherman supertool 300 instead of the rebar
@CedricAda
@CedricAda 10 жыл бұрын
Great question! I thought that these two were more fairly matched in terms of price, features, and place in each brands line. I did consider the ST300, but whilst the weights were more comparable, the price of the ST is $20-30 more. I would wager the MP600 is probably in the middle size wise between the Rebar and 300. Stay tuned for other Gerber/Leatherman face-offs - Crucial v Skeletool, MP1 vs Wave.

When you pick up both of them, you can definitely feel the lack of quality in the Gerber. The Leatherman is so much tighter and more solid. I did a side by side comparison and ended up getting the Leatherman. I'm not regretting it.
