... und wieder was dazu gelernt!

I love your work, Gerda. Thank you, thank you for sharing. I have a question: does the alcohol ever lead to paint peeling off?
@GerdaLipski
@GerdaLipski 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Linda, thank you! I seal the surface , after it has dried, with acrylic varnish or acrylic binder. Then nothing will peel off.

Repeated layers of gloss medium between acrylic paint layers produce wonderfully vivid colours and luminosity but also a very glossy. So, I am wondering: Do you use varnish and, if so, do you use Gloss, Matte or Satin?
@GerdaLipski
@GerdaLipski 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda,mostly I find the differences in gloss very appealing. But if I want a uniform matte or glossy surface, I take a corresponding acrylic varnish

Wunderbar, US Oklahoma, Gerda❣️ Thank you for this alcohol video. Questions ? ? Must it always be done on paper? Can it be done on regular canvas? If done on canvas do you need the initial gloss medium to cover the surface? Does the alcohol leave any residue that needs to be cleaned off? Does it work with metallics paints? Thanks again for your help♥️😀
@GerdaLipski
@GerdaLipski 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Tricia, yes, you can do it on canvas, too. Yes, you better first cover the surface with gloss medium. Otherwise the effect may be not so clear. You don´t have to clean off the alcohol, but you should seal the surface with medium afterwards. Yes, it works with metallics too.

Thank you. May I ask, do you always use a transparent white to lighten colours?
@GerdaLipski
@GerdaLipski 5 жыл бұрын
No, I normally use titanium white. But not in this case
@GerdaLipski
@GerdaLipski 5 жыл бұрын
Now I understand your question: The "transparent white" you meant is acrylic binder. It looks milky white, when wet, but dries clear and transparent. It doesn´t brighten up the yellow but "dilutes" it.

Can the alcohol technique be done after some textures have been applied by adding paint and pressing down with plastic overnight as you sometimes do? I tried this on my canvas I've been working on using some of your techniques but did not have much success, but would like to try again if it is possible. Thank you!
@GerdaLipski
@GerdaLipski Жыл бұрын
Dear Lindsay, the alcohol drip technique works best on surfaces that are relatively smooth and flat and primed with an acrylic binder, or thick, undiluted acrylic paint or even gesso. The technique can also be used on substrates with raised structures, but it usually does not produce round textures.

Hello Barb, yes, of course. It works even better, when you seal the canvas with acrylic binder first.
