"This killing machine of yours is sure turning some heads" -John Marston To me there is nothing more poetic and terrifying then early motorized warfare and machines like this. Something as simple as taking a 1910 Chevy truck and mounting a maxim gun on the back just makes my mind race with ideas and imagery that is almost H.G. Wells like.

James Tang. Thing is, in those days, rioters were often ex-soldiers. They dug into entrentched positions. With machine-guns. www.history.com/topics/weimar-republic Those aren't soldiers in the barricade. They're civillian Spartacists, left-wing revolutionaries. They also improvised armoured trucks with machine-guns. c7.alamy.com/comp/ERGE6F/german-november-revolution-in-berlin-germany-1918-car-with-machine-ERGE6F.jpg They marched in formation and used military tactics. Definetly not the kind of riot you're probably thinking of. Their Right-wing equivalents were the Freikorps. They fought for the government with the same methods, alongside the downsized army.

OFFICIALLY they wanted water cannons. But, like the dude said, they often just kept the machine-guns. Seriously, Google ''Spartacus Uprising''. They had to use artillery to take these ''rioters'' out.

Turned out it was a pulling tractor/loght rail gauge engine used to replace horses which the pizza and bar spot down the street was the coach house for these horses. We also found a tugs engine and shaft in the same canal. Both were taken by museums in Niagara Ontario.

It is largely not stated that Germany had a civil war at the tail end and after the First World War, a struggle of ideology inspired by the Russian Revolution with Communism versus Capitalism as a simple explanation. Those armoured cars would have been very handy, Britain used light tanks in Ireland as well as Armoured Cars during ‘The Troubles’. The early British Armoured Cars has day wooden spoked wheels which were soon found to be useless in action if damaged, soon unrated to cast metal!

Synopsis of the video: The Germans had 20 to 40 armored cars, mostly on the Eastern Front. They frequently provided security behind the German lines. During a battle with the Romanians, the Germans assembled a combined arms task force that encircled the enemy. The task force may have included one or more German armored cars. In other words, a German commander rediscovered Napoleon's combined arms army corps blending infantry, cavalry, and artillery. Let me recommend David Chandler's masterpiece book - "The Campaigns of Napoleon."

Once again another awesome episode; however... ...in the last weekly episode (at 7:50), Indy said the German vehicles had steel wheels as they didn't have access to rubber And yet throughout this episode I couldn't take my eyes off the rubber wheels and the spares on the side of this car (and in all the photos). So I guess my question is "How did the Germans get their rubber after the war and in the early days of the Weimar Republic?" Loving your work and starting to feel sad that we only have 7 months to go :-(

A question for out of the trenches. During the second world war my grandfather, and everyone in the county, were restricted from joining any military service because they needed people to mine the coal that powered the ships. I am wondering if there were any instances of this during world war one? Love the show, you guy are awesome!
@mflax43316 жыл бұрын
It happened in both wars. If there was some important job (for the war effort) the males were not send to the front. My grandfather, his dad and brother were working as lumberjacks in WW1 to build a bridge over the Rhine. My father was working for the railway in WW2. None of them joined the fighting forces.

ARIXANDRE I'd say war museums are respected here, as Germany puts great importance on the education about the war (especially on the "Never again!"), but with this in mind they feel somewhat different. They are in my experience (although I haven't been to all that many non-German museums) more focused on the gritty reality of war and on disspelling the glorification than on the somewhat abstract display of the tools of war.
