@@selfiemonkey1465 Thank you! It was my first ship model in 1/350 scale so it was definitely a fun journey!

I am making the Tamiya version. This is my first battleship so I have a question on the hull weathering. I have used Tamiya acrylics thinned with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner followed by a Mr. Hobby Super Clear gloss clear coat. I intended to use oils for the weather as you have. How long do the oils take to dry? Then I was going to use the acrylic Vallejo Matt Varnish has you have stated. From what I have read acrylic clear coats should be used to seal in the oil weather paint. What sort of weather did you do on the upper part of the hull above the water line? Thanks, Dave from Vancouver Island.

@@davidbishop1570 Thank you for the question! The oil’s drying time usually depends on the brand, but as an average drying time I’d say 2 to 3 days. The oils well never be properly bonded and set though until the clear coat has been applied. My advice is to use weather with your oils, then apply the acrylic clear coat 24-48 hours later. Once that’s dry it should be fine to handle and such :) And to answer your question for the weathering above the waterline, I basically used the same stuff as I did with the superstructure and I used the same process, making sure to keep the streaking visible. For next time I’d probably use some oils for rust and grime deposits, so that’s what I would recommend. Good luck with your build!! This ship is a lot of fun to put together:) (I hope this answers your questions)

@@CanadianSprues Thanks for the reply, very helpful indeed. For the super structure I left it the matt paint finish, no gloss coat, and applied the Tamiya Weathering Master pigments, Orange Rust, Burnt Red, and Oil Stain which gave it a very pleasing effect. I attempted the turret blast bags yesterday with very bad results so I will try what you used, milliput.

@@davidbishop1570 I’m glad to hear!! I may try some pigments too, I’ve heard good things about using them. Also yes, I’d highly recommend milliput, just make sure to sculpt it with water for a more seamless look :)

@@CanadianSprues Which type of milliput did you use as there seems to be a few options?

@@davidbishop1570 I believe the stuff I use is the Milliput “Superfine White”

Do you hand paint the blast bags on the turret?

@@charlesbarber5157 Yes! I found I had more control that way :)
