To be honest, I find that the black Germans have usually different life experiences from us. My sense is they even tend to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder (probably from growing up as a visible minority). I generally do not see or experience any additional solidarity with them unless they are visibly in touch with their African heritage.

It’s more of a class thing than a race thing. 1st of all, blacks in Germany are extremely rare. Secondly, the experience of a high earning highly educated expat would be vastly different from that of an asylum seeker or someone in the working class . I for one, relate better with white Germans, especially the ones in my field ( Engineering/IT).

its simple, just because your black doesn't make you my people. Its racist to assume just because someone is the same skin color that somehow were the same.

Offcourse we are not the same. No one is. However there is nothing racist about expecting alliance from people that share the same struggle as you. Every group does it in their own way.

@DTaze It sounds like you're living in denial, I'm an African American. I went to a club in Germany with other blacks from Africa and were told to our faces blacks weren't allowed, of course after they heard I was American they said I could go in but not the Africans. I did the only right thing and told them to kiss my @ss and we went somewhere else. The point is no matter how much you deny it, if you have a black skin, you'll always have similar struggles. The Jews, Indians, and Lebanese always identify as what are they no matter where they go, that's why they are generally successful. Blacks are always easy to manipulate and betray each other to fit in.That's why Africa is weak. No one loves you until you love yourself.

The question becomes if well to do continental Africans feel so “privileged” in Africa, why then migrate to the west? Why then not stay, let’s say in Nigeria or wherever they were privileged to build their respective country of origin rather than escaping it? The other matter is this notion of racism as purely a singular experience as was expressed by the host rather than the structural or institutional phenomenon that it is. A continental African’s individualized ability to cope with racism has yet to change the global phenomenon that it remains in 2024. The host of the show, I think, was a bit myopic in his views.

Majority of well to do Africans want no parts of staying in Europe etc. In the very least they come to use the private health services or invest in real estate etc. They do not want to ‘escape’ to Europe. Let’s stop this narrative of Africa being something to escape. Plenty people are more than happy where they are. My friends back home literally laugh at me when it’s time to return to Europe when I go on my trips to Ghana. They can’t believe that I still want to go back. I don’t think my expression was to say racism is a singular experience. Offcourse it’s systematic. I just happen to give one example which was singular.

@Mhoro33 I feel you. It’s not a great feeling. I’m sure someone will ask “then why come back”? Simple answer is we have built a whole life here which is very difficult to up and just leave. But me personally I’m working on it. I’ve reached my limit.

90% of africans do not migrate overseas, they actually stay in africa. But Italians also move to the US, Americans move to Europe. Why don't they also stay in their country if it's wealthy and developed?

I agree. There is NO such thing as black german. Everyone is german. The same way there is asian german or american german. These are stupid terms. Colour is not a form of identity
@ConvosXpodcast10 сағат бұрын
@taz09216 This fantasy of an idea is ideal but way past unrealistic now. These terms, though "stupid" are here and they are very much political and they affect real people's lives everyday. No matter how much we would love to create this eutopia of "colour doesn't matter", its not realistic and probably will never be. Its more harmful to the idea and people you are trying to protect. It is here and it affects people everyday. Burying our head in the sand fixes absolutely nothing. Thank you for sharing your opinion.
