Ahh Brotzeit ist Mahlzeit. Much of my almost 30 years in Germany 2 of 3 meals a day were kalt gegessen. You said you were only going to touch on what can be had, and I have to agree fully with that. Germany has soooo many items and variations of items to eat at a Brotzeit that I doubt even after 30 years I've tried even half of them. Funny thing is, I've been in the US now for over 20 years, and since retiring, I'm going back to eating more brotzeiten. It's just easier to make, healthier, and less calories. Problem is is getting the right breads and charcuterie. Thankfully there's internet shopping. 🤣😁😉😎

Hahahahaha! Thanks God for online shops 🤣 I also buy international ingredients online :) btw. We still eat 2 of the 3 meals cold. I cannot bother to cook so much. Plus the bread is so good, how can you say no to this 🤣

A thought just hit me...US has an obesity problem at least 3x that of Germany. German cooking is in no way diet. Much of the cooked meals are far higher in calories than US cuisine. Maybe brotzeiten is the reason... You “prepare” only one piece of bread at a time. Anything you don't eat goes back in the fridge. So, beyond finishing off that last slice of bread you buttered, you're not forced to clean your plate. Now all I need to do is find a good online source for presssack and leberwurst. LSG Seeheim-Jugenheim use to serve some great pate packed in individual servings. Wish I could remember who made them.
@cooking-the-world

@@michaelwittkopp3379 I tend to think that the obesity problem is because people really don't know the difference between satisfying hunger and binge-eating. And you are right - one needs to balance meals during the day. You had a high-calorie meal in the afternoon then eat some Handkäs for dinner, easy as that ;)
