I used to live in Nürnberg, you want to avoid the Christkindlmarkt after dark, it is SUPER CROWDED. It takes forever just to get from one end of each aisle of stands to the other end. Go throughout the daytime when it’s less crowded. Check opening hours online. The church at Hauptmarkt where all the stands are (Frauenkirche/Our lady’s church) starts the Männleinlaufen at noon, it’s when the figures of the mechanical clock start moving. Also, compared to other Christmas market throughout Germany the Christkindlmarkt in Nürnberg isnt even all that great. Almost every town and city in Germany hosts their own Christmas market and they can hold their own as well. Often they have more rides as well. If you opt to get a hot beverage from a stand they impose an extra fee for the mug. Most ppl keep the mug as a souvenir. The mug states the year and city of the Christmas market it was from. Ppl love to collect them.

Oh how I've been waiting for this series. Bavaria, my favorite place ever. Nothing better than the food at the Christmas markets and I could almost taste those brats. So good to see the crowds were not overwhelming (we were there on the first weekend opened and the throngs of people made it impossible to get near most of the stalls). Just makes me want to go back. Great video.

Agreed, Tommye! We loved Bavaria Germany. Buckle in because there’s 4 more videos coming from our Bavarian road trip! Some Christmas Markets were busy, but this one was less busy, which was nice. I took my wife to see where i was stationed in Ansbach in December 2019 then specifically for Nuremberg Xmas market. It is truly a fairy tale xmas surrounded by the walls of the old town. We had also visited markets in Frankfurt and Berlin. By far this is the best. This view was also shared by a young California couple whom had just visited Berlin market and wanted to spend more time in Nuremberg after realizing how beautiful the experience was. P.S. in 2001 we visited the Trier, Germany xmas market, while small, it had rows of vendors, roasted chest nuts in air, giant soft snow flakes, and coke trucks with Santa on side.

I’ve been to the Nuremberg Christmas Market twice in the last three years, including last year. It’s my favorite of all of the markets. And the kartoffelpuffers at that same stand are my favorite food in the world. And I’m not even joking. I eat them about 10 times in the three days I’m there. And the last time I almost cried because I knew it was over. As for the Feuerzangenbowle,, the one with the flame is a few stalls up the road from the kartoffelpuffer stand. You can’t miss it. There’s always hundreds of people around it, and there’s a giant flame.

Feuerzangenbowle is a party drink and normally celebrated together at home. You have one big pot with wine, a huge sugar cone on a metal over it, you pour some liquor on the sugar and light it. Therefore it is not realy possible at a market. Older Germans reminds it always to the famous film "Die Feuerzangenbowle" with Heinz Rühmann where 4 old guys sit around a Feuerzangenbowle and share some stories about school days. The film is still watched by students, for example every summer there is a public movie screening in the university town of Tuebingen. Check it out on youtube with english subtitles here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIvQeJiuiNWSpKc
