Italian-German twinning concert
The choirs "Mondo Musica" from Werther and "Mater Dei" from Ispica will unite on May 26th, 2024 at 6.30 pm for a joint concert in the St. Jacobi church in the Böckstiegel town of Werther.
The Mondo Musica choir, which emerged from the project choirs Weltfrauenstimmen and Wiegenlieder, sponsored by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, was founded in 2011 by soprano and MiZ singing teacher Claudia Oddo. In the last few years they have made several choir trips to Verona and Salento.
In May 2011, Claudia Oddo invited the Italian choirmaster Giannino Amore from her native Sicily to accompany the first concert with her Mondo Musica choir in the Böckstiegel town of Werther. The idea of a choral partnership was born and the first joint concert took place in the summer of 2023 in Ispica with the Mater Dei choir, which was founded 29 years ago in Ispica in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
The resonating success in Sicily in October 2023 has welded the two mixed choirs and their associated musicians together under the direction of Giannino Amore.
On May 26 at 6.30 pm, a total of 50 singers will perform together in the Evangelical Lutheran St. Jacobi Church under the patronage of the Italian Consul Cesare Trecroci, who will be present in person.
The concert, which also marks the tenth anniversary of the MiZ music school in Werther, will begin with sacred works by Antonio Vivaldi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and César Franck. After the poignant organ tones, further choral works from operas and oratorios will be heard, accompanied by Maciej Wesolinkski on the Bechstein grand piano.
There will also be clarinet solos by virtuoso Giannino Amore. For the finale, the choirs will perform masterpieces from Italian film music and original compositions by Giannino Amore and Claudia Oddo. Tickets go on sale in the week before Easter at the MiZ music school in Werther, Ravensberger Straße 37, on 05203/9173880
