Just wanna point out that knuckles is Knöchel in german, while a Knie is a knee, and a Kniechel is confusing, but still better than a Knieschel :D Now I dont know how Meyer wrote Knöchel, maybe oe or oi (because ö was not yet invented)?

Good comment! I had a double check of the treatise. Yeah, it is bizarre that it isn't Knöchelhauw, or something like that. I suppose German wasn't standardised in that period, and there were regional dialects. I guess Knuckle may have been pronounced slightly different back then and therefore written phonetically?
