When I was Stationed in Germany back in the 80's, a 100 German Mark note was worth around $40. If you look now on eBay, that 100 Mark note now sells for over $500. if I had known German money would be worth as much as it is today I would have saved every mark that I had

That was beautiful money. I still have about 350 DM in bills (each of the new edition 5 Mark to 100 Mark in each case in multiple execution as well as from the old portrait series from the 5 Mark Bill to the 20 Mark Bill) My father has even a well-preserved 500 Mark Bill from the portrait series wich is worth a lot. Maybe a little tip for those who want to change their D-MARK because they need the money. I would advise you urgently before you bring the money to the Bundesbank. Put the bills rather to on Ebay. Actually, you get almost every note for at least 30% more than the official exchange rate. In addition, the bills go at least to a collector and are not getting destroyed. Great Collection! Honestly I hope we could go back to the times that each of the european countries still had its own currencies. It was just something special when you were in other countries. The "common" euro is making travelling over the border a lot less special.

not all european countries dont use the euro, Sweden Denmark Czech Republic Hungary Croatia Bulgaria, Poland Romania all use their own currencies despite being in the EU, when the UK was in the EU (I am from the UK) we never switched to the euro, I live 30 miles from the border with Ireland in Northern Ireland which part of the UK so when i cross the border i use euro but Northern Ireland uses pounds like the rest of the UK

Greetings from Austria:euro was a big mistake,the DM was the best currecny in the Europe,very good design,I have all notes and coins too in UNC condition,and I have too the West Germany mark(before 1990 Germany was divided ) and all banknotes from Eastern Germany

MegaBojan1993 yes they should.I am working in DB currently,I could get all sets for normal price,I liked more the German mark,peseta,lire,Irish pound,latvian lats,euro is ugly currency,and I hope that it will be soon replaced,we did an interview with people in Berlin and Vienna and 95% wanted Mark and schilling back in circulation ,Germans and Austrians started to hate the euro recently

They are original (fake ones don't have the watermark and the security thread). They were very expensive, but totally worth it. I wanted to have this collection every since I was a 6-7 year old child. I finally got them when I was 30 years old. Talk about a long wait :)

Yes I agree with you about orginal as they are very expensive but worth it. I am still searching for Original German DM set at the moment. (This is the last one I need to get!) The "Deutsche Mark" and EURO were both in use in two months (January + February 2002). In this time each bank changed DM into Euro charging no fees. From March 1st, only the "Bundesbank" (central bank and their branches) are still changing DM into Euro, without time limit.
