I think this data is not correct. Poland is at the beginning of army modernization, which will last many years. Currently, terribly old structures are being replaced with ultra-modern ones and this is where the biggest difference will be. For example, we are buying F-35 and as many as 96 Apache helicopters. There's not that much in any army. We build our own armored vehicles, drones and missiles. There were about 1,300 tanks, of which 1/3 of the oldest ones were transferred to Ukraine. As for the weapon. "Grot" is a modern design that is slowly being modified and developed (currently in the 3rd generation - I think I'll buy it :)). Weapons in private hands in Poland, not just 1%. There are 1 million gun permits and half of my friends have them at home. Poland, as a former Eastern Bloc country, has a very large army in relation to its population and will have an even larger one, including civil defense.

The caliber of the ammunition does matter. Firstly, the standard NATO round is a 7.62 mm round. This is so all NATO rifles can use the same ammo. However, it isn't required. For example, the last US rifle to use the 7.62 was the M14 rifle, which was replaced by the M16 which uses a 5.56. A 9mm Parabellum pistol doesn't do the same damage, nor have the same stopping power, of the .45 caliber round of the US M1911 pistol. The other thing to remember is that Poland doesn't want to rely on Allies who say they'll help but may not. As what occurred in 1939. One reason the Poles welcomed the US Army V Corps to Poland (Camp Kosciuszko) was because if they're invaded, the invaders will automatically be hitting US troops which means war with the US as well.

Well Germany is in very comfortable position of being very safe from any direct military threats - 100% bordering countries are allies, it's in NATO and the only potential threat - Russia - would have to first invade and defeat Poland to even reach Germany by land. So at least since 1991 the government was more than happy to save on military and pump the industry instead, and II ww trauma helped to justify that. We on the other hand have direct border with potential enemy and even though we are in NATO we know very well that we have to stand our ground for a while until any serious NATO forces even arrive (if they arrive at all - no one can be sure until it happens at least once somewhere). Germany. Help us. Please, don't make me laugh. They'd ally with Russia against Poland in a second if it was only acceptable in the eyes of the world. How can you be that naive if you're over maybe 12 years old? Don't confuse your own experiences with common Germans with their leaders' politics and attitude towards Poland. They're already trying to destroy us economically and while they're indeed far more civilized than Russians, their aspirations for hegemony in Europe and conquering Poland never died. Yes, they're in NATO but so what? France and the UK were our allies, too, before the war and how did that work out? If Russia attacked Poland, I'll tell you what Germans would do. They would officially condemn the attack and announce that help is on the way but secretly they would negotiate with Russia, about how far Russia can proceed, and they would delay the promised "help" as much as they could, so Poland would, hopefully for them, bleed to death before the help finally comes. Remember this, no matter how nice regular German people are, their leaders will always think of Poland as their rightful property. So, please, stop licking their boots just because they smile and pat your head from time to time. It's so freaking humiliating after everything your ancestors sacrificed for Poland to be independent and proud. There are no friends in politics, only interests and our interests aren't exactly consistent with German ones. So, sure, be friends with people but never trust German leaders. Those are two entirely different things and if you're adult, it's high time you realized that.

Every military force is created for needs of particular country. Germany don't need strong land forces, because there is close to none risk of them being invaded by land. Since there is a military alliance, it makes a lot of sense for Poland as potential frontline, to have tanks, AA systems and sheer numbers. Germany would complete the front well with sending aircraft, so the way it is, looks logical to me. Poland must maintain strong army at all times, that is obvious, because it's matter of life and death. If i was German, i wouldn't keep half million army, just in case another country gets attacked. Germany have other ways of helping. If they only contribute to keeping air supremacy over attacked Poland, we can handle rest. What i am mostly afraid of is, how strong the alliance would be in a moment of need, because famous article 5 can be interpreted in many ways. That is also wy Poland upgrades army so quickly: we might see a situation, where Poland is fighting alone for weeks, while allies debate about how to help without annoying the little KGB oldtimer.
@Edi_J9 ай бұрын
If you compare German army vs Polish army in 1930 it would be much more in favor of Poland. I recall very "sad and alarming" German poster from 1930, showing peaceful and defenseless Germany surrounded by ships, guns, tanks, planes and armies planning to invade it. Yet, only 9 years later Germany destroyed not just Poland, but the next year all the Western Europe, combined. And another year later almost defeated the Soviets (who built the largest army in the world), at the last moment saved by the US+UK resources. What really counts, is the size of economy and industrial potential. Also, demography, but nowadays less and less...

Poland in 1943 have a great army but war started in 1939. Now we speaking about plan realized in 2035. And Russian economy will collapsed in 1-5 years. When poles got there they saw among locals suffering, starvation, and the feeling of being told that your existence was inferior to those oppressing you. They Knew that exact situation. Haitians wanted independence just like poles so they turn back on french and joined Haitians helping with gaining independence:)

Ways that might seem miniscule way but in extream conditions (like war) every thing can make a huge difference. for example the 9x18 is a lot slower and tend to have to little force to destroy and fragment itself on impact then the 9x19. We use to laugh that You can see the 9x18 fly. From what i know The 18 is more prone to ricoschete making it a bit more dengerous for the shooter himself. Im not sure but i find The 9x19 to be worse to get hit by, not becous of the speed or the force but becous of a much higher chance of fragmentation and deformation of the bullet. to be honest You could write a whole book about it... and many people have.

Not an expert but definitely interested in military and after re-checking against few sources, including official, our numbers are overestimated/outdated or while the raw number being still higher, gear quality is far inferior to German. Not to mention much greater German military sector capabilities for production, logistics and potential for financing... From the other side Germany would've been in huge political disadvantage if war happened in today's geopolitical situation(somehow, lol). Nevertheless conflict today between us would've been bloody, lets not do it (please). Together with France, we would build an incredibly powerful army, just think about it for a second. 2:20 - caliber does matter greatly i.e. the 9mm may not actually go a lot of harm if not hitting vital organs and arteries. There are plenty of videos where a person receives several shots and can still run. 9mm will likely stop on larger bone. This is not so likely when you get shot with 7.62 round.

1:34 it reflects total registered number of guns per 100 citizens, if every hundredth citizen in Germany had a collection numbering between 19 and 20 guns, you would get 19,5 per 100 citizens. 2:09 there is a difference between pistol and rifle rounds - pistol rounds make holes, stop at a bone, rifle bullets go through bone and turn its fragments into secondary projectiles inside tissue. This is due to rifle bullets having larger powder charge and longer barrel. And no, getting hit by a bullet does not make you dead usually, it usually make you scream and have your team mates spend time on helping you stabilize wound and do med-evac. 2:45 both Germany and Poland are currently humiliatingly weak. The strength of a nation is not just current military, but its military-industrial-resourcing complex. You take losses during war, you expend ammunition and equipment. It has to be replaced. And if it cannot be replaced fast enough, you lose. After all, shovel wielding soldiers in these age are nothing but dead meat. 3:10 It is still a little drop in the bucket of a real war. Besides, just because you have numbers, it says nothing about their quality. Especially now, when EW and drone warfare has been developing rapidly. 3:49 On a real war this stock would last how long? six months? These are used in various tactical situations. These numbers mean little. Ability to replace is more important 4:14 nope, that is outdated junk, it should be replaced by drones in near future. 4:48 On real war these are consumables, it does not matter much how many you have, it matters how quickly and how many you can manufacture. Poland can't manufacture any atm, Germany has such problems with manufacturing, that I would say it should find it humiliating. 5:12 stars are for war nerds (usually watching military equivalent of adult movies with similar excitement only different fluids are involved in the climax) and have no meaning. Each equipment is best of it's class at time of acquisition, not necessarily adequate on modern battlefield. 5:42 just because now you are so weak, does not mean you will be so in the future. These are crazy times and leadership is far from sane. And competent leaders can turn a country in less than a decade. 8:11 such small drones are used for local battlefield awareness by special ops teams, should be standard for infantry by now. Some slightly larger drones may be equipped with explosive charges (used to hunt vehicles and personnel) or small bombs (for bombing personnel and vehicles). 8:20 these are not very survivable on modern battlefield. So not very useful. 8:30 it is a drone with explosive warhead that loiters in the area waiting for a target to hit. May be small like the one mentioned earlier or somewhat large for anti armor role 8:41 these were considered outdated until shahed-2 drones (or rather primitive propeller powered cruise missiles) entered the Ukrainian battlefield. 9:05 nope, this happened due to deterioration of intellectual capability of ruling elites in both countries, not due to membership in NATO 9:58 yeah, but still, ships these days are divided into submarines and surface targets. Perfect for anti ship missiles and soon surface explosive water drones. 11:43 nope, most jets require pristine runways to take off. Only Russians have planned their jets for bad airfields. F-16 acts like a vacuum cleaner, so any debris will simply damage the engine. 12:20 nope, it was meaningless comparison of numbers of military equipment and personnel. Did not compare industrial capacity (that can be used in wartime), resource base and while German and Polish weakness is true now, it can change in less than a decade. But that would require sane and competent leadership, and that is something I don't see anywhere in the west right now.
