My Farley was frightened everytime he went to the vet and wimpered. The last time, I was the one who wimpered and cried. He didn't because he welcomed the relief coming from pain. He was a great and loyal friend and 10 years later, I still miss him. No more dogs for me after Farley. I'm 74 now and beginning to understand how he felt the last time.

The day you get the dog, you go to the vet. Sit, read a mag, give treats, leave. repeat everyday for a week. Then occasionally. THEN go for the appt. Then repeat "non-visit" visits often.

That can work but not as your vet doesn’t live in the same city or neighbourhood as you. The dog is an intelligent animal, if you load him or her in the car to visit the vet, they usually know where they are going. Especially around the vet his or her place are odours you cannot detect, but your dog can! And will. And associate it with visiting with receiving some discomfort or even pain.

I would gladly trade what I have to deal with for any one of those reactions. I have a cat that poops every time I put him in the crate. On the way to the vet AND on the way home. After three vet visits and five poops, I found out my vet will do house calls for special cases. It cost an extra $100, it's the best money I ever spent.

My askal in the Philippines liked one girl at the vet. He would go to her as soon as we arrived, walk on the scale and jump on her table, no problem. One day there was a new girl, very cautious of him. I had to put him on the scale and table. When she came toward him, he jumped off the table and hid under my chair. Once she pet him and gave him a treat she got over her fear and he was fine. He sensed right away her fear, turns out it was the first time she had given a vaccine without the vet being there.

I had fIve big dogs all all the same time ,the biggest one would charge into the vets ,put his monster pows on the reception desk and demand a treat ,in the vets ,he clinic he Would present a paw and get another another treat on the way out ,he would be paws on the desk again knowing full well his enthusiasm would win him yet another treat. All the receptionists and vets thought he was really funny with his hunger crazed antics . Apparently he was the only dog that willingly charged into the place as if it was a party 😂

Our chihuahua mix is normally very happy and confident. He greets other humans and dogs seemingly to think he's got the upper hand even tho he almost never does. (In a friendly way.) Anyway, I took him to the vet this year because he got a sticker stuck in his nose. He was absolutely terrified and shivering in my arms. I warned the vet that he's never bitten anyone, but I had never seen him act like that. I wonder what it is about the vet that's so terrifying to dogs that are otherwise very confident.

FYI don't say it's funny when it comes to animals Even they have all the feelings just like humans We should feel for them too like reacting to their motions happiness scary weird and sadness only one thing they can't speak but expression speaks a lot I am very passionate about the animals and birds both domestic and wild having a pet in your family is an additional happiness and support

There are articles online about why dogs are often so terrified of the vet. They mention ways to help desensitize them, at least somewhat, so they aren’t so frightened. I find it hard to laugh at dogs that are having what is essentially a panic attack. I’ve had panic attacks, and they aren’t anything to laugh at.
