This is great to see. Dogs make life so much better and glad you both have your own mate. My dog wakes me up early every morning begging to go to the beach. Rain, snow, gale winds, doesn't matter she needs her frisbee time at the beach. Now if i can just get her to love the water as much as Kona.

As an owner of three Czech-born DDR shepherds through my lifetime, I can tell you that this dog WILL be your companion for life. Beware of some common problems with GSD's. Hip dysplasia is real, your dog will be quite active so that is a great thing. Don't let her get too heavy (won't be a problem in FL heat and being an active dog). Also, this dog will become increasingly protective of you both as you grow in your relationship and time goes on. My wife was confronted by a black bear and cubs here in Western NC on a walk one time with our infant daughter. Zelda (our dog) got half-way between this roaring (I kid you not) bear, and kept in that position, losing her mind until the bear left. I know that Zelda would have died for my wife and daughter... So happy for you both!

Sheps are just the best. My two spent many many days on the boat and on the beaches and sandbars. Keep her socialized with as many people and other animals as you can and you will have a companion that can take anywhere with confidence. Give glucosamine way before she needs it, gsd joints aren't forever.

Awesome. My first mate is a two year old Lab. He doesn't exactly like the on-plane part of boating but totally owns the beach and sandbar. He has a blast. Kona looks like an awesome member of the crew. Gotta watch him around the toothy critters. Beau the lab doesn't seem to get very excited about seeing fish, so no troubles yet for me.

My first dog was a GSD. I adopted him from a shelter in LA for $75. He was a leadership challenge for sure, but he turned into a great dog once I got my stuff together and learned how to train him. Such a great breed.
